Meet Andrea Rosado

We recently connected with Andrea Rosado and have shared our conversation below.

Andrea, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

Growing up, I was always mesmerized by storytelling through film, TV Shows, books, church, my family and even my own life. As a kid, my mom used to say I would create my own stories while I played even before I learned how to read. Inspired by films that moved me growing up (such as Frozen, Beauty and the Beast, The Shack and The Pasion of The Christ), I decided to embrace my storytelling skills through visual arts, post production, writing and team management. There has always been a drive within me to share stories, specially those that reflect beauty, love and truth. Those stories have helped me discover the core of who I am today and the light within me. Therefore, I want to give that back to the world through my life and my work; creating a reflection of the truth and beauty that speaks to my soul, while simultaneously becoming a vessel for those that need to witness it too. Hopefully, it inspires others to find their own light as well.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Born and raised on a small island, Puerto Rico, surrounded by art through cultural music, theater and visual arts. I decided to embrace my storytelling drive by falling in love with the fine arts. My journey started by editing images from my favorite films and making them my own, which hobby grew into something new as I embraced my skills in painting, drawing and even leadership by directing a play in High School. Based on my experience and emotions, I would create art pieces aiming to reflect the greatness of the simple things: nature, faith, home. However, deep inside I knew I wanted to do more, expand my storytelling experience beyond the 100×35 miles of my island. Therefore, I left home for the first time and pursued my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Visual Effects at the Savannah College of Art and Design. Here, I grew as an artist and professional by leading, collaborating and expanding my skills within multiple projects and career opportunities.

After pursuing my degree, my passion in storytelling was also transformed into a career beyond myself as a freelance compositor, lighting and look development artist. During post production, as a compositor, I am responsible for the overall details of the final shot, making the product appealing and believable to the spectator. With the roll of lighting and look development artist, I push forward the mood and style of the scene. My work involves a lot of collaboration, which is my favorite part of the job. Working with a team of creatives that have the same drive as me to tell stories and take care of the details to refine them means a lot because I get to connect with them and their stories as well. Early in my career I have been able to embrace this role in the advertising industry, with the dream to continue growing in the entertainment industry either in feature/episodic and beyond. As I embrace my skills as an artis and storyteller, I would also like to lead and build a team myself to continue connecting and telling new stories through art.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

In my journey, the most important qualities that have helped me embrace my purpose have definitely been a faith larger than my fears, collaboration and willingness to grow. I have lived hardships and witnessed many fears in very dark times, but God used them all to increase my faith in Him, in myself and in His plans, despite anything. Believing and loving something that I don’t fully know or fully understand have helped me overcome many of my personal obstacles. Faith have been my fuel in anything I create or any big decision I make in my journey. It has been part of multiple collaborations as well because by having faith in the team and working hard with them it helped us reach a bigger goal. Collaboration have also given me the opportunity to learn from the team and most of all unlearn the qualities that do not serve me anymore. Connecting with a team (friends/family or coworkers) allows me to expand my perspective and increase my willingness to learn, to grow, embrace my craft and embrace my purpose.

Faith, collaboration and willingness to grow have always been the qualities and skills that have driven my journey. They can be the most challenging and most beautiful parts simultaneously but most of all these are the qualities that have made a difference in my story. Anyone can embrace them, no matter how young or how old the person is. It requires a lot of patience, humbleness and bravery but we are all capable of embracing it fully if we can open the doors within ourselves and be true to ourselves despite the external circumstances. To younger folks I do want to say: If you say yes to your own internal journey, it will not be easy, but it will be worth it. It will be your north whenever you get lost. Do not be hard on yourself, do not compare yourself with others, it is your journey: perfectly imperfect.

What was the most impactful thing your parents did for you?

My parents have been a crucial part of my journey. Their immeasurable love and unconditional support have been like a lighthouse illuminating my journey, with the certainty of returning home after a long sail. I know letting me go shakes them but it is something that I will forever be grateful for… and something I admire myself: loving to the point of letting go. Their act of bravery inspires and moves me. They believe in me sometimes even more than I believe in myself, always reminding me who I am moving forward with faith and trust. Without them, their support and the seeds of faith and love they planted within me, I would not have been brave enough to follow my purpose.
