We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Tyler Fisher. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Tyler below.
Hi Tyler, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
A year after eight screws and a plate were drilled into my lower leg, I turned to storytelling to create a new vision for my reality, and it has been my passion ever since. Before that season-ending injury, I had spent eleven years dedicating my life to football, resolutely believing the sport would provide my family with new opportunities to escape poverty and homelessness. I gave my heart to the game, convinced it was my path to a better life.
But when that path was abruptly cut short by a season-ending injury. I found a new purpose through storytelling. Writing became the field where I could channel my drive, discipline, and determination. As a self-published author of three books, I sought to craft empowering, intriguing, and authentic narratives that would captivate readers. My debut non-fiction work, Cardiac Cardinals, unveils the raw journey of me being a high school football player and navigating poverty in Charlotte, NC. Through adversity, identity struggles, and echoes of my football past, I reveal how grit forged my struggles into ambition and purpose.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m a storyteller at heart, but my creativity extends far beyond writting books. I design clothes, produce films, and even conceptualize car and home designs in my head. I needed a brand that could house all these endeavors, a hub for my diverse creative output.
At the same time, my relationship with God deepened, and a lyric from a Stevie Wonder song struck me: “God already created you with a purpose even before you were born. All you have to do is walk into it.” This powerful realization led me to embrace my last name, Fisher, as a symbol of purpose and a guiding principle for my life and work. I knew if I wanted to start anything new God would have to be at the center of it.
The concept of “Fisher of Men” in the Bible was when Jesus called his disciples to a life of greater meaning which mirrored my own desire to create with intention, authenticity, and impact.
Fisher Studio marks the next chapter in my creative journey. It’s more than just a clothing brand; it’s a creative studio where quality storytelling and faith remains at the core. Through Fisher Studio I will continue to design fashion, produce visual content, and create projects that reflect my values, purpose, and vision.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
The most impactful qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge on my journey would have to be doing a lot with a little, listening with an open perspective, and persistence. I always “say less is more and start today” because some things you can only learn from experience, and you don’t always have to have everything to start. Could you start with what you have? Listening is such a very underrated skill. There are many times in life when you will have to step up and lead with your voice. But the best leaders are also the best listeners. Listen for details, listen for different perspectives, listen for character, listen for values, listen for clues to success. Being able to listen is essential because, the majority of the time, the clues are in the details…so listen. Lastly, you must have persistence in anything you pursue because it will not always be a straight path. Know that the struggles you face are not blockers but enhancers. You learn from mistakes, you learn from experience. Implementing these three techniques will guarantee you success.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
Two books that have profoundly influenced my personal development are The Bible and The Way of the Superior Man by David Deida. The Bible provides timeless wisdom, particularly in Proverbs, where verses like “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps” (Proverbs 16:9) remind me to trust God’s guidance while pursuing my goals. Similarly, “The purpose in a man’s heart is like deep water, but a man of understanding will draw it out” (Proverbs 20:5) encourages me to seek wisdom and clarity in uncovering my true calling. David Deida’s The Way of the Superior Man complements this spiritual foundation by offering practical insights on living with authenticity and purpose. The book emphasizes the importance of aligning every aspect of life with a man’s mission, facing fears to foster growth, and consistently pushing one’s limits to evolve. Together, these books have shaped my understanding of purpose, courage, and discipline, inspiring me to live with intention and faith.
