We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful William Boston. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with William below.
William, so great to have you with us and we want to jump right into a really important question. In recent years, it’s become so clear that we’re living through a time where so many folks are lacking self-confidence and self-esteem. So, we’d love to hear about your journey and how you developed your self-confidence and self-esteem.
My mother played a big part into my confidence and self -esteem. As a kid she made sure to let all of her children know that we were capable of doing anything. She always encouraged us to never give up, and till this day her favorite line is “Son, Keep your head up” Which she quotes from the song by Tupac her favorite artist. She never made me feel like I couldn’t do anything, she was the loudest person at any of my basketball games, which would be embarrassing at times, but she was showing her love and support. And as kids my siblings and I always knew that Mom had our backs, and I knew that nobody could tell me that I couldn’t do anything, because my mom instilled that confidence and self esteem in me as a child.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
What up folks, thank you for taking the time to read about my brand and I. My name is William Boston, I’m the owner of William Boston Apparel, a luxury street wear brand that was created in 2005. The brand started as a hand painted clothing brand, and transitioned into a more cut and sew street wear brand over the years. We’ve been blessed to have our brand in some of the world’s largest fashion shows, which includes Los Angeles fashion week, and New York Fashion week. Over the years our brand has been sold in several stores through the U.S. and we’ve been able to be featured in large publications like GQ magazine. We’re currently preparing for NY Fashion week 2023 and look forward to making more connections and growing the brand even more through our connections.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
The three most impactful skills that were used on my journey were 1. Never Quit! Even when things weren’t going my way, I always pushed through because I understood that God wasn’t going to place more on me than I could bare. And I would always say to myself, “If you quit now, you’ve wasted your time and God’s time” and with me understanding that we’re on borrowed time from God, I never wanted to waste any of the time that he has given me, so rule #1 was to Never Quit!
The second skill or quality was to be optimistic, Find the positive in every situation. There’s positive in every negative but you really have to equip your mind to think like that. Most of that was already instilled into me as a kid, so in my adult I carried those same traits and characteristics.
The third skill or quality was to always be open to learn more, even through whatever success we were having, I never got the BIG HEAD, I always remained humble and I was always open to receiving info or education that could help my brand grow and also info that would help me grow as a person.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Yes, we’re always looking to collaborate with like minded individuals. From photographers, to videographers, models, to other designers. I would love to link with another dope street wear designer and develop some cool pieces together or even collaborate on a dope design together.
