Meet Aimee Cruz

We were lucky to catch up with Aimee Cruz recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Aimee, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I realize Work Ethic is something I have control over, something I am responsible for. I can eat popcorn and play on my phone or I can work on my goals.

Ever since I was young I enjoyed reading, studying and homework. My Aunt would joke I was always with my head in a book at family gatherings. As an adult, I love pulling my laptop out and working on files while others are relaxing.

I think Work Ethic like most things is a combination of Nature and Nurture. My Mom and Dad loved reading and both worked jobs in the local Hospital as I was growing up. My Grandpa had his own business in San Francisco. My other Grandpa was a bar tender at a LA bar.

I noticed people worked hard because they cared about their lives, families and the actual work they were doing was meaningful to them.

In some ways, a strong work ethic is merely a habit. Its a habit of doing the work that needs to be done to achieve the goal. It starts in school by getting good grades and from there it reinforces itself. The secret is to find a way to be interested – make it a game, make it fun and just do the work even when you dont feel like it.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

At the core of all I do is Deliver a Great Client Experience. I seek to form win-win Partnerships through Events and Content.

Moms on Maternity was started in 2017 when I was on Maternity Leave with my second son. I wanted to meet more women planning to go back to work while raising a family. I believe we 100% can be Great Moms and Great Professionals.

I have hosted over 100 events across industries in the last decade with Moms on Maternity, Valle Guadalupe Baja and Deloitte where I was a Sr. Manager before I went full time Entrepreneur.

2025 is exciting as our Signature Pregnant and New Mom Luncheon will be hosted on Six dates by Moms on Maternity.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

1) Having Vision – you have to know what you want. My teacher mailed me a letter I wrote to myself when I was in high school. He mailed it to me 10-15 years after I wrote it. The letter was addressed to my future self. It was interesting that everything I said I saw in my crystal ball was my current life at the time.

2) Taking Risks – you have to be willing to journey the road less traveled. It took me a long time to realize this and its hard and scary though with each ‘calculated bet’ you get better and better as stakes are higher and so you learn exponentially more about the world, business and yourself.

3) Understanding People – empathy and connection are basically everything – there is a time to be yourself and a time to go business mode. When it’s all said and done you will remember the moments of eye contact, smiles and connection more than the cars and money. Its the impact we have on others that allows for happiness and success.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

My parents helped me prepare to go to a really good college, UC San Diego. They toured campuses with me, helped me apply and helped pay for it. They helped me get everything I needed for my Dorm Room and supported me when I was a freshman. I will never forget this love and care that went into this time period of my life – from driving down the I-5 from Nor Cal to the celebration dinner after my graduation to the special gifts I received at graduation. They were proud of me and it felt good!
