Meet Maya Salone

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Maya Salone. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Maya below.

Maya, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

As a young African American woman, I’ve mastered the art of thriving in spaces where I’m the only one like me. I’ve adapted to being an extrovert when necessary and living in the moment. I’ve learned to expand my social circle, avoid overthinking, and focus on exploring, networking, and creating meaningful connections. Embracing my uniqueness as a creator and influencer has been empowering. Not conforming to traditional norms has become my strength. I’m unapologetically myself, and my confidence in my own skin is my greatest asset.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m Maya, the face behind the personal brand “More of Maya.” Senior business marketing major as a multifaceted content creator and influencer, you can find me on various platforms, showcasing my diverse talents as a YouTuber, ambassador, model, and entrepreneur. What excites me most is the continuous journey of self-discovery, adopting positive habits, and pushing the boundaries of my creativity. My brand is built on embracing versatility, so don’t expect to put me in just one box! I’m always exploring new creative outlets and will be launching businesses in the near future.
Some upcoming projects to look out for include my feature in the documentary “Tuskegee 100,” celebrating Tuskegee, Alabama’s 100th homecoming, and new content releases starting in the new year. Stay tuned for more from me!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

My art is an extension of myself a genuine and authentic reflection of my passions. I take pride in my growth, both personally and professionally, and I’m excited about the upcoming projects that will showcase my continued elevation.
Through hard work, determination, and a willingness to take risks, I’ve built my brand from the ground up. As a college student, part-time employee, and content creator, I’ve learned the importance of time management, consistency, and self-care. My journey has taught me valuable lessons about being mindful of the company I keep, protecting my brand, and staying true to myself. To my audience, I promise more exciting content, adventures, and experiences.

For those aspiring to become a public creator, I offer this advice: start by introspectively connecting with your emotions and asking yourself if this path truly aligns with your passions and purpose. If it does, pursue it wholeheartedly and embrace every challenge and triumph that comes with it. However, if your motivation stems from following a trend or seeking external validation, take a step back and allow yourself to be guided towards your authentic purpose.

Is there a particular challenge you are currently facing?

My biggest challenge right now is an internal one it’s me versus myself. I’ve been struggling with creator’s block, trying to balance my own vision with the expectations of my audience. As a result, I lost my passion and took a break from content creation for several months. However, I’m now on a healing journey, and therapy has been a game-changer. It’s something that’s just for me, and I’m loving every moment of it. I’m excited to share the improved version of myself with my supporters.
