We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Simon Mulla. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Simon below.
Simon, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My old man, I’ve learned a lot from him and his way of doing business.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
At Cali Builders & Construction Inc., we don’t just build buildings, we build dreams. Since our founding, our mission has been to provide high-quality, reliable construction services for both residential and commercial clients. Our success is driven by a simple yet powerful belief: construction is more than just a job, it’s a passion. For me, construction is a way of turning vision into reality, whether that’s through the foundation of a family home or the creation of a commercial space that will serve a community for decades to come. In this essay, I’ll share the journey of building my company, Cali Builders & Construction Inc., and explain why I’m so passionate about the industry that has shaped my career and my life.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The path to success as a licensed contractor requires a blend of technical knowledge, leadership, and strong project management. By developing these skills early in your career, you will be better equipped to tackle the challenges of the construction industry. Whether you’re managing a team on-site, ensuring the project stays within budget, or maintaining open communication with clients, these qualities will set you apart and help you build a reputation as a reliable, skilled professional.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
Looking back at my journey in the construction industry, one person stands out as having been an incredibly influential force: my dad. Not only has he been a source of unwavering support, but he’s also been a hands-on mentor who taught me the skills, values, and mindset necessary to succeed as a contractor. From my early years learning the ropes to the more advanced aspects of running a business, my dad has been instrumental in helping me overcome challenges and develop the qualities that are key to being successful in this field.
In essence, your dad’s influence has likely helped you develop both the hard skills and soft skills that are essential for a contractor.
His mentorship has not only shaped your technical ability but also helped you grow into a strong leader and a business owner with integrity and vision. Reflecting on this relationship can show how deeply personal experiences have contributed to your success, and it can also serve as a powerful reminder of the importance of mentorship in the construction industry or any field.
