Meet Tamika Robinson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tamika Robinson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Tamika, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
My journey to true self-esteem and confidence started when I went to college. My life was shaky at best in high school, and I pretended to be confident because I didn’t want anyone to know; behind my smile, my life was falling apart. Divorce, anger, depression, hurt, and hate plagued my heart, but I knew once I was in college, I could reinvent myself, and that is what I would do.

Once I got to college, I realized two things: reinventing myself was much easier said than done, and the feelings I held in my heart were still there. I was alone a lot and it amplified those even more, I couldn’t stand it. One day in a psychology class, my professor said
“If you’re lonely when you’re alone, you’re in bad company.”
And that was it!
I followed up with a question,
“How does one become good company?”
It sparked a conversation about therapy and “shadow work” which essentially was accepting, learning, loving and growing parts of yourself and your personality. Then proceeded to give homework on the topic.

It was that day my life changed, I talked to a counselors and worked on meeting the actual Tamika. I kept working on myself and becoming more self-aware, building a relationship with the true me.
I uncovered some deep truths, some incredible pain, some amazing strengths and ultimately became my own best friend. The reinvention of myself had to start in my heart!

I began doing things that made me happy, because for so long I was doing things that made others happy, trying to fit in. The pure joy and freedom that I felt was like flying! It was in doing all the little things I wanted (dying my hair, wearing tutus, buying a Spider-Man backpack, etc) my confidence grew more and more because all those things made me happy and feel good!

Now, my self-esteem and confidence are through the roof! Because all those little actions built up over time filling up my confidence and self-esteem. Confidence and self-esteem start inside you.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I’m Tamika, the CEO of JARFIT- a personal training company specializing in customized training, nutrition, and health programs to transform your physique & life!

As a Certified personal trainer, nutrition coach, and professional bodybuilder- the most exciting part of my job is creating relationships with my clients. That relationship allows me to help them transform how they think about health and fitness, then watch them transform their bodies. Once they start to see results, their lives inevitably start changing too!
It’s just an amazing privilege to be part of that process!

JARFIT is growing!
We are hiring two new personal trainers and will be offering group training! We are so excited because these trainers share the same passion and are thrilled about helping others transform their lives! If you’re ready to not only transform your physique but transform your life, too, we would be delighted to help you on your journey!

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Hearing No. Sales and customer service can be a little scary, but you need to hear the no’s and cannot be afraid of them. Don’t dwell; move on; for every ten no’s, there may be two yes’s. It happens, but don’t let it affect you and how you feel about your work!
2. Schedule everything!
If you’re a solopreneur or a start-up, everything is your responsibility. If you keep a consistent schedule, you can do everything you need to accomplish for your business without being overwhelmed by your “to-do list.”
3. Patience for success.
This skill sucks. Everywhere you look, entrepreneurship seems fun, flexible, and “easy,” and it’s not. It can eventually become those things; when you’re first starting it is hectic, chaotic, scary, full of work and grind! You can’t be afraid to work hard for the first two years to make it a success. Be patient, work, and believe because you can do it, it’s just going to take time.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?
My amazing business partner and incredible husband, Jason Alan Robinson, has been instrumental In my success!
He’s been an entrepreneur for over twenty years and has accumulated a wealth of knowledge. His knowledge has helped me understand patience, his amazing grind day in and day out, and how much he networks.
He believes that everyone is a client until they say no. He walks into a room, meets everyone, and lets everyone know what he does; that way, he can be the go-to person for health and fitness!
I admire him for how incredibly passionate he is about the business and helping people be the best versions of themselves, mentally, physically, and spiritually!
