Meet Lisa D’amico

We recently connected with Lisa D’amico and have shared our conversation below.

Lisa , thank you so much for joining us and offering your lessons and wisdom for our readers. One of the things we most admire about you is your generosity and so we’d love if you could talk to us about where you think your generosity comes from.

Donating my talent as an artist and curator allows me to give back to the communities that make a difference in the lives of other. Whether curating exhibitions that amplify artistic voices or creating artworks that bring a meaningful impact, my goal is to contribute to building a culture of inclusivity and dialogue. By offering my expertise and vision, I can support important charitable causes, mentor emerging artists, and create opportunities for others to experience the transformative power of art. It’s a fulfilling way to make a significant impact while sharing my passion with others.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

As an artist, curator, and educator, I am passionate about creating memorable connections through art. My work as a curator focuses on showcasing diverse perspectives and bringing together works that tell compelling stories, fostering conversation and understanding. As an artist, I often explore themes of identity, resilience, and nature, striving to create works that deeply resonate with viewers. In my role as an educator, I enjoy inspiring others to explore their own imaginations and guiding them in discovering the personal power of artistic expression. By combining these roles, I have dedicated my life and career to celebrating creativity, empowering others, and sharing the impact of art.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, the three qualities that were most impactful in my creative journey continue to be adaptability, empathy, and a commitment to lifelong learning. Adaptability allowed me to navigate the ever-changing landscape of the art world, from shifting trends to evolving mediums, and to embrace new challenges. Empathy has been essential in understanding the journeys of others, whether through teaching, curating, or creating art that echoes with a broad spectrum of audiences. Lifelong learning has allowed my work to evolve purposefully while encouraging me to seek out new techniques and themes.

For those early in their journey, I’d recommend starting by embracing curiosity and staying open to experimentation. Don’t be afraid to step outside your comfort zone or make mistakes—they’re often the most valuable learning opportunities. Cultivate empathy by listening to and engaging with different points of view; it will not only enrich your work but also deepen your effectiveness. Finally, commit to being a lifelong learner by seeking mentorship, attending workshops, and exploring different disciplines. Growth is a continuous process, and staying open to it will make your journey all the more rewarding.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I welcome opportunities to partner and collaborate with artists and arts organizations. Whether as an artist and curator, I am especially drawn to working with those who share a passion for nurturing creativity, celebrating diversity, and enriching artistic experiences.

Joining forces with fellow creatives is a fulfilling aspect of my work. I can be contacted through my website or social media to share ideas and explore potential possibilities.
