Meet Cole Trainor

We were lucky to catch up with Cole Trainor recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Cole, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

Like a lot of aspects of life, my resilience doesn’t come from one source. My resilience has been something that I have been building up for a long time and, whatever I can conjure, I make sure to make the best of it. My main sources of strength come from my family, friends and mentors who have taught me throughout my life. Watching my parent’s has inspired me to be better and keep moving forward. The skills of my mentors and friends has inspired me to take up skills that I have not thought of doing. The stories of other’s challenges have made me realize any obstacle can be overcome with perseverance.

One example has come from my parents. My parents have both worked as speech pathologists, with my mom owning her own practice. They have worked for decades supporting my brother and I. They sacrificed a lot for my family in order for us to have a good education and a healthy life. Recognizing this on a daily basis has inspired me to move forward. Knowing the challenges that they overcame and pushed through has made me realize what I can do, as well. Much of what I have been able to do has been from the inspiration that my parents gave me through their sacrifices and hard work, using those sacrifices in learning to be better so that their hard work is not wasted. This has been my source of resilience for a long time and has continued to strengthen as I have aged.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

My name is Cole Trainor, I was born New years day 2005. Most of my life I have had a very creative mind. I have had a love for tales of excitement, intriguie and fantasy. I have a passion for creating and coming up with new ideas that are interesting and fun to tell. Ever since I was 13, I have aspired to be a game designer and work for a big gaming company where I can create, collaborate and work on incredible projects in the industry. I see video games as more than just entertainment, but as a way to change how people see their lives and the world around them. Even if video games are perceived as entertainment, well then that’s the type of entertainment that I want to create in the world.

Recently I have put in hard work and dedication to make my dream a reality. I have made many projects involving graphic and 3D design as well as traditonal 2D art and video editing. Often, I surround myself with fellow artists to try to gain as much knowledge in the creative field as possible. I have joined clubs and involved myself with design projects for events within the community. I have my own YouTube channel where I have gained even more experince involving design. I do not yet have many brands/portfolios but, I am pushing forward to that point. I am striving to gain exposure, experince and to prove my skills in the field. My goals include learning from mentors and experts.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Discipline, determination, and confidence are all qualities that have helped me the most to move forward with my creative journey. Being able to search for resources, expand my knowledge and seek advice have been great help for myself.

The best advice that I can give for people who are beginning their journey is be kind to yourself. Don’t compare yourself to others, especially those who have years more experince than you. Walk your own path in life and take your time.

How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?

Building confidence in my work has been a great challenge for myself so far. I often have to take a step back to look at my work with pride and love. This takes a lot of work and courage to do because there are times that I don’t give myself enough credit for my creative work.
