We were lucky to catch up with Phil Better recently and have shared our conversation below.
Phil, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome is not a one-time thing—it’s a journey. You don’t defeat it; you outgrow it, only to face a new, bigger version when you level up. Every time you step into a room or situation where you feel like you don’t belong, imposter syndrome shows up, whispering that you have no right to be there.
In those moments, you’ll rack your brain for every strategy, every nugget of wisdom you’ve learned from people who seem more qualified to be in that room than you. But here’s the truth: you’re there for a reason.
Maybe you landed on the Apple Podcast Charts for Business at #84. Maybe you won an award for Best Business Podcast in 2020. Or maybe you’ve done something as incredible as climbing Mount Kilimanjaro. Whatever it is, you’ve achieved something unique—something that earned your place.
Imposter syndrome doesn’t mean you’re a fraud. It’s a sign you’re growing, stepping into spaces where you’re pushing yourself to be better.
So, to answer your question: How did I overcome imposter syndrome? I didn’t. I learned to embrace it. I use it as a guide—a signal that I’m heading in the right direction. Every time it shows up, I know I’m taking another step forward in my quest for knowledge, growth, and success.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Hi, I’m Phil Better, also known as The Podcast Mogul, and I help entrepreneurs and creatives turn their passions into profitable podcasts. What’s most exciting about what I do is watching people discover the power of their voice. Podcasting isn’t just about creating content—it’s about building connections, growing authority, and turning your unique story into something that can inspire and impact others.
What sets my work apart is my focus on teaching out-of-the-box strategies to monetize podcasts. Whether it’s through creative sponsorships, leveraging your podcast for business growth, or building a personal brand, I believe podcasting can be a life-changing tool for anyone willing to invest in themselves.
Right now, I’m gearing up for some exciting new projects! I’ve just launched my webinar, How to Launch, Monetize, and Scale Your Podcast in Less Time Than It Takes to Order a Coffee. It’s packed with actionable steps to help podcasters at any stage of their journey. I’m also working on expanding Invest In Yourself: The Digital Entrepreneur Podcast, where I share incredible stories and lessons from entrepreneurs around the world.
For 2025, I’m doubling down on helping independent podcasters succeed by offering more courses, resources, and even exclusive coaching opportunities. My mission is to show you that podcasting isn’t just a hobby—it’s a powerful platform for building a business and creating impact.
So, if you’ve ever thought about starting a podcast or want to take your existing show to the next level, now’s the time to get started. And remember: the most important investment you can make is in yourself.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back on my journey, I’d say there were three key qualities and skills that had the biggest impact on my success: resilience, adaptability, and the willingness to embrace lifelong learning.
Resilience: Building something meaningful—whether it’s a podcast, a business, or a personal brand—takes time and grit. There were hundreds of moments when I doubted myself or felt like I wasn’t making progress fast enough, but I kept going. The ability to bounce back from setbacks and stay committed to your goals is what separates those who succeed from those who give up. My advice? Celebrate the small wins along the way. They’ll remind you of how far you’ve come, even when the road feels long. NO MATTER HOW SMALL THEY ARE!
Adaptability: The podcasting world—and entrepreneurship as a whole—is constantly evolving. Algorithms change, trends shift, and what worked yesterday might not work tomorrow. I’ve learned to adapt quickly, try new strategies, and pivot when necessary. For those just starting out, focus on staying curious and open to experimentation. Don’t be afraid to fail; those failures will teach you how to succeed. Fail actually stands for: First Attempt In Learning.
Lifelong Learning: This is the cornerstone of everything I do. I’ve always approached podcasting and entrepreneurship as opportunities to learn and grow. I listen to other experts, study successful businesses, and seek out new tools and techniques to refine my craft. My advice? Never stop learning. Read books, take courses, listen to podcasts (of course!), and surround yourself with people who inspire you to level up.
For anyone early in their journey, I’d say this: don’t let fear hold you back. You don’t need to be perfect, and you don’t need to have all the answers. Start where you are, with what you have, and focus on progress over perfection. Every step you take will bring you closer to your goals. And always remember—investing in yourself is the smartest move you can make.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
One of the most impactful books in my development has been The 4-Hour Workweek by Tim Ferriss. This book completely changed the way I approach work, productivity, and even life itself. It challenged me to rethink the traditional ‘work harder, longer’ mindset and embrace a more intentional, results-driven way of working.
Here are a few nuggets of wisdom that have stuck with me and shaped my journey:
The 80/20 Principle (Pareto Principle): The idea that 80% of your results come from 20% of your efforts was a game-changer. It pushed me to focus on the tasks, strategies, and relationships that create the most impact, rather than trying to do everything. For example, when building my podcasting business, I prioritized monetization strategies that brought in real results, rather than getting bogged down by less impactful activities.
Outsourcing and Automation: Ferriss’s concept of outsourcing tasks and automating processes opened my eyes to the power of delegation. Instead of spending hours on repetitive tasks, I learned to invest in tools and people who could handle those for me. This allowed me to focus on the bigger picture—growing my brand, creating impactful content, and connecting with my audience.
Lifestyle Design: Perhaps the most important takeaway was the idea of designing a life around your goals, values, and passions, rather than building your life around work. It’s why I’ve been able to blend my love for podcasting, entrepreneurship, and helping others into a career that doesn’t just pay the bills but brings me joy and purpose.
If there’s one piece of advice I’d share with someone considering this book, it’s this: don’t just read it—apply it. Take one concept, even something small, and implement it in your life. You’ll be surprised at how a simple shift in mindset or habits can create massive change over time.
For me, The 4-Hour Workweek isn’t just a book; it’s a philosophy that’s guided me to work smarter, live better, and always prioritize what matters most.
