We recently connected with K. Lori and have shared our conversation below.
K., thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?
The way that I keep my creativity alive is by meditation. I meditate daily in a calm peaceful space and allow the creativity to come to me by way of images, shapes, and color. I do not allow myself to search for ideas in the world because then they are not mine but someone else’s.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
K. Lori Creations was created when I bought my daughter a King Charles Cavelier (Bella). This precious little pup needed clothing, and I could not find any clothing that represented our ethnicity. I decided to design and create outfits for Bella that represented who we are. When we were out people began to ask, ‘Where did you buy that outfit?’ and I would reply that I made it. They would then follow up and ask if I made dog outfits to sell. To which I would smile and reply ‘no’. I was often encouraged to sell my creations due to the uniqueness and craftmanship. My daughter encouraged me to share my creativity with the world, so I took the leap of faith and launched my website November 16, 2024. My website focuses on a one-of-a-kind Dog/Cat Bandana design that’s suitable for all breeds. I also wanted to focus on creating a bandana that was not only unique but also easy for the pet parent to put on their pets and comfortable for the pet to wear. With that in mind I created what I like to call the ‘1 second’ bandana, because that’s all the time it takes to put it on and off. I also believe every pet is special and no two pets are alike so neither are my designs. I only make one of every design offered on my website which allows the pet parent and pet to showcase their individuality.
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back I would have to say 3 qualities, skills and area of knowledge that has been impactful for me would be: learning to how to sew at a young age, having patience with a design when it doesn’t turn out the way I was hoping it would and recognizing for myself that if I have a vision the only one stopping me from making it a goal is me.
The best advice that I would give is to go slow and take your time this is your journey that only you can control.
If you knew you only had a decade of life left, how would you spend that decade?
The challenge that I am currently facing is definitely advertising funds. It is very competitive in the social media world to become recognized for your business and every direction that leads to help has a price tag.
