We were lucky to catch up with Jeymarie Guerra recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jeymarie, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
At Supportive Engagement, finding my purpose began with a deep belief in the power of connection and healing. My journey was rooted in a commitment to creating a safe space where individuals of all ages could feel seen, heard, and valued. Helping others wasn’t just a goal—it was my calling, shaped by personal experiences, professional expertise, and a passion for supporting others through life’s challenges.
When I founded Supportive Engagement, it wasn’t just about offering therapy—it was about redefining it. Drawing from my background as a bilingual mental health professional and a Registered Play Therapist™, I focused on developing a neuroaffirming and trauma-focused approach that celebrates individuality and resilience. Whether working with children navigating self-regulation, teens building confidence, or parents fostering stronger family connections, every session became an opportunity to empower others.
As our team grew, my purpose deepened. I brought together professionals with diverse specialties, including trauma-informed care, holistic healing, and family systems therapy, so we could offer a truly inclusive and comprehensive approach. Programs like the Therapist Play Lab and Mental Health Menus became extensions of this mission, making therapy more innovative and accessible.
My purpose comes alive with every breakthrough, every story of healing, and every moment of empowerment. It’s in those moments that I’m reminded why I do this work. At Supportive Engagement, my purpose isn’t just a foundation—it’s a driving force that keeps me inspired every single day.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
At Supportive Engagement, I’ve built a practice centered on empowering individuals, families, and communities through tailored mental health services. As a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Play Therapist™, my focus has always been on creating a space where healing feels accessible, compassionate, and deeply personal. What excites me most about our work is how it blends evidence-based techniques with a neuroaffirming, client-centered approach, helping individuals embrace their unique strengths and navigate challenges with confidence.
What makes Supportive Engagement truly special is the diversity within our team. Each therapist brings their own expertise and passion, allowing us to offer a wide range of services, from trauma-informed care and play therapy to parent-child relationship support and holistic healing. I’m particularly proud of the creative tools we’ve developed, like the Mental Health Menus and Therapist Play Lab, which make therapeutic techniques engaging and relatable for both clients and clinicians.
This year, we’ve expanded our offerings to include support groups for neurodivergent teens and family-centered approaches like Filial Therapy, which empower parents to strengthen their connection with their children. Additionally, we continue to offer personalized individual therapy for children, teens, and adults, meeting each client where they are in their journey.
For anyone considering therapy, I want you to know that healing is not a one-size-fits-all journey. At Supportive Engagement, we celebrate individuality, create space for growth, and guide you toward achieving emotional well-being and resilience. It’s incredibly rewarding to see the positive changes our clients experience, and I’m grateful every day to be part of those transformative moments.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, three qualities have truly shaped my journey: empathy, adaptability, and a love for lifelong learning. These have guided not only my work with clients but also the growth of Supportive Engagement as a practice.
Empathy: For me, empathy is about more than listening—it’s about creating a space where people feel truly seen and understood. It’s a cornerstone of my approach and something I work to bring into every interaction. For anyone starting out, focus on being present in conversations. Approach people with curiosity and genuine care—it’s a skill that deepens the more you use it.
Adaptability: The world of mental health is always evolving, and being flexible has been essential. Whether it’s learning new therapeutic methods or finding creative ways to meet a client’s unique needs, adaptability has allowed me to keep growing. My advice? Embrace change and lean into the unknown. Often, the most meaningful growth happens when you’re willing to step outside your comfort zone.
Lifelong Learning: One of the most rewarding parts of this journey has been continuing to learn and grow, whether through new certifications or exploring innovative approaches like play therapy or neuroaffirming practices. If you’re just starting out, invest in your growth—attend workshops, seek mentorship, and stay curious. There’s always more to discover, and it keeps your work fresh and meaningful.
Advice for the Journey:
Take time to reflect on your “why.” Knowing what drives you will help you stay grounded, especially when things get tough. Build a network of people who inspire and challenge you, and remember that progress doesn’t have to be perfect—it’s about showing up and taking one step at a time.
Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?
Throughout my journey, mentorship and community have been key to overcoming challenges and building the skills and qualities I needed to succeed. One person who stands out is my mentor, Rina Herasme, who has been a lifeline both professionally and personally. Her guidance as an entrepreneur, realtor, and financial advisor has helped me navigate not only the complexities of running a practice but also the importance of balancing personal growth with professional ambition.
Additionally, my team at Supportive Engagement has been instrumental. Collaborating with talented therapists who bring their unique perspectives and strengths has not only expanded my knowledge but also reinforced the importance of creating a supportive and inclusive work environment. Their dedication inspires me daily and pushes me to continue improving as both a clinician and a leader.
Lastly, the clients I work with have played a big role in shaping my growth. Every session is a learning experience that deepens my empathy, sharpens my skills, and reminds me why I started this journey in the first place.
Advice for Others: Seek out mentors and peers who inspire and challenge you. Surround yourself with people who believe in your vision and are willing to share their wisdom. And don’t underestimate the value of learning from the very people you serve—they’ll teach you more than you can imagine.
