Meet Ariel Adrian Almiron

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Ariel Adrian Almiron. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Ariel Adrian, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

“For me, resilience comes from my passion for dance and the way I’ve learned to face challenges. Every rehearsal, every competition, and every moment of uncertainty in this career has taught me to adapt, persevere, and push beyond my own limits. Dance connects me with my emotions, and that helps me transform difficulties into opportunities to grow, not only as an artist but also as a person.”

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

From a young age, my dance training has been broad and diverse. I began my studies at the U.N.A. (National University of Arts), where I focused on tango and Argentine folk dances. I also had the opportunity to train in contemporary dance at UNSAM under the direction of Oscar Araiz, and I graduated from the Contemporary Dance Workshop of the San Martín Theater in 2013. Additionally, I am a certified teacher of Argentine folk dances through IDAF.

In terms of my professional career, I started traveling early on. In 2009, I participated in the dance ballet of U.N.A. (National University of Arts) and the ‘UBALLET’ of the University of Buenos Aires, where I had the honor of representing Argentina at international festivals in Belgium and France. I also worked as a choreographic assistant for the same ballet in 2011 and 2012.

Starting in 2014, I became involved in larger projects. I directed the folkloric section of ‘Argentino el Espectáculo’ and joined the company ‘Forever Tango,’ with which I toured countries such as China, the United States, Canada, Portugal, and Andorra, among others. In 2017, I had the privilege of performing at the Teatro Colón as part of the ballet in ‘La Traviata.’

Since then, I’ve participated in iconic shows like ‘Señor Tango,’ ‘Café de los Angelitos,’ and ‘Una noche en Buenos Aires,’ touring Brazil, Mexico, and more. Additionally, in 2021, I was a finalist in the World Tango Championship in both the tango salón and tango escenario categories, which I consider a milestone in my career.

Currently, I am a dancer with the company ‘Tango Buenos Aires,’ performing on Royal Caribbean cruises, as well as with the Miami-based company ‘Tango Lovers.’ With both companies, I have the privilege of traveling the world, bringing tango to diverse international audiences.

My experience also includes teaching and sharing tango internationally. In 2020, I was invited as a teacher and performer to the ‘3rd Manila Tango Marathon’ in the Philippines, and I am thrilled to be returning to the Philippines in 2024 to continue sharing my passion for tango.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The three qualities or areas of knowledge that have most influenced my career are, without a doubt, dancing, teaching, and choreographing. These three skills are deeply interconnected and have allowed me to develop both on stage and in sharing knowledge with others. Dancing keeps me connected to my passion and my body, teaching allows me to pass on that passion and experience to others, and choreographing gives me the opportunity to create, innovate, and convey my artistic vision.

My advice for those starting their careers is to never stop studying. Dance, like any art form, is constantly evolving, and the only way to stay relevant is to understand both what has already happened and what is still happening. Continuous study will allow you to grow and adapt to changes, as well as enrich your own artistic perspective.

Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?

The most helpful approach for overcoming challenges and developing the essential skills, qualities, or knowledge has been consistency and staying active in different areas of dance. The key is not to stagnate, but to always seek new ways to grow, whether through continuous practice or exploring different styles and disciplines. Additionally, connecting with teachers who inspire and challenge you has been crucial. They provide valuable tools and a fresh perspective that helps you continue evolving both professionally and personally.
