Meet Carla Gibson

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Carla Gibson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Carla, we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

My Generosity Comes from how my mother raised me to have a love for serving others. From a young age of helping with sales in the concessions stands during summer recreational cheer, to girls scouts community projects and events, to doing community service for fun in college, with my fraternity and sorority sisters. I love knowing I made an impact on someone else’s life in a positive way ! And can’t wait to do more service through my business and related community projects as well.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

Unique Monique’s Boutique LLC started as an affiliate marketing business with an interest in bring beauty supply products at an affordable price to the community in June 2020 I created the LLC , started finding and developing relationships with my vendors and building my business. In Oct 2024 of this year I decided that I wanted to be a beauty supply boutique with a more centralized focus on only 40 products and offer hair services to align with my passion for helping people achieve cute hair styles and grow healthy, strong and beautiful hair.

My goal is not only to do a brand relaunch announcing this focus and continue my soft launch introducing this now until Dec 31, 2024, but also end the year with a community event for the unhoused which will be an all day event complete with a chance for them to get their Hair Done/cut , nails done, clothes , hot lunch meal, health screenings, and have a clothing closet, children’s corner and watch local talent entertain them. This is recreating an event I helped with through my mom called project healthy living while living in Detroit. Also getting brand name travel size hygiene products to give out once a month to the unhoused community with other community members and more!! I’m so excited for this new chapter in my life. My goal is to achieve my own beauty supply store to house these 40 products but will also have a couple of nail techs, a couple of additional stylist with wash bowls and and a couple estheticians so you can come get full service at affordable price for men and women !! And using funds to be able to also give back to the community . So many things are in store and these are just a few and I can’t wait to grow and continue on this journey .

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

There are 3 things in life you can control. Your attitude , your work ethic and student mentality. So making sure that you remember that and adjusting one of those 3 things when things are not going your way or as you planned you can achieve success. Staying positive and putting focus where it will have the best results

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I eventually would like to connect to nail techs, and estheticians when I get big enough to create the one stop shop for all interested in beauty, and using my products I sell and maybe in collaboration to anything they sell and then grow and maybe have multiple locations so we can eventually help people Look good, smell good, and feel good so that can do good !
