We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Dro a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Dro, appreciate you making time for us and sharing your wisdom with the community. So many of us go through similar pain points throughout our journeys and so hearing about how others overcame obstacles can be helpful. One of those struggles is keeping creativity alive despite all the stresses, challenges and problems we might be dealing with. How do you keep your creativity alive?
My creativity never runs out and it’s my superpower. I simply keep it alive by being unapologetically myself.
Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?
I am Dro, the artist and owner of KLT Art. I’ve been creating art all my life from music to dance and painting to sewing. With my artistry and small business I create paintings, illustrations, handmade jewelry, hand painted clothing, stickers, and so much more. As I said before, my creativity is endless. It’s a God given gift that I pour into creating. I create art and I also sell my work online both nationally and internationally.
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Three qualities most impactful in my journey are focus, patience, and perseverance. I advise people on their journey to keep God first as their foundation. Another piece of advice is to keep the right people around you. With that enlightenment, you must be self aware of your own flaws first.
In this society, it’s exceedingly easy to finger point and label other people as “haters” or “negative”, but it’s vital to ensure that you are not breeding that same spirit or anything else toxic, Keeping the right people around you, destiny helpers if you will, will either contribute in improvement and life elevation or cause delays and setbacks.
Before we go, maybe you can tell us a bit about your parents and what you feel was the most impactful thing they did for you?
The most impactful thing my parents did for me was investing and nurturing my talents as an artist. It was the foundation of who I am today. It’s so important for parents to pour into their children’s talents, goals, and interests because it becomes an immense part of them walking into their destiny in the future.
