Meet Jen Larson

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Jen Larson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Jen , we’ve been so fortunate to work with so many incredible folks and one common thread we have seen is that those who have built amazing lives for themselves are also often the folks who are most generous. Where do you think your generosity comes from?

Growing up, my parents were always involved in the community and I would see first hand how they helped people out and literally changed people’s lives. That is one aspect. The other one comes from an intense desire to want to help people in any way I can. Maybe that means I connect them to resources or I personally help them myself or I even just sit with them so they know they aren’t alone in this world.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I started making content in 2020 and things really took off. My audience grew quickly and I had several national brand deals come through. I had no idea what I was doing, which is probably good because I was just being myself and I think that’s what people love- authenticity.

I started with influencing, so I was basically selling people things that they didn’t need with money they didn’t have. Once I realized I was indulging and promoting overconsumption and consumerism, I decided to switch gears. Luckily I was able to retain the majority of my followers. They are a loyal group!

I had just gotten out of a narcissistic relationship so I thought, hey why not talk about relationships and help people not get into the position that I was in. I turned on my camera and just said what was on my mind and it hit over 1 million views. Celebrities started reaching out to me, I got more brand deals, invited to several podcasts and it was great! So I got certified in relationship coaching and started taking appointments.

A few months later, I got burnt on social media and wanted to do something OFFline. I had no idea what I would do but I knew I needed another outlet. I met a woman at an event who made non-toxic candles. She gave me a sample and it was incredible! I asked her if she would work with me and let me promote her candles. She said no BUT I’ll teach you everything I know. I said perfect! So now I make non-toxic candles and the name of my company is called Non-Toxic Society because I don’t want to just stop at candles. I have other products in the works. Even clothing. So this is just the beginning! I love having a creative outlet and also teaching people how to minimize the toxins in their home. I love lighting candles in my home but I don’t care how good one smells, if it’s toxic-that yummy smell is making you sick. Nothing is worth risking your health over.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I love criticism. Most people don’t even want to hear it but I ask people I trust all the time what I can do to be better or am I doing something wrong, are my products, labels, marketing, etc good? I’m in the business of people so I always want to hear feedback so that I can make things the best they can be. I don’t want to fail. But if I do fail, that’s okay too. Onto the next thing. Some things in life should just stay a “great idea”.

My knowledge of marketing and people has helped. I’m picking up on things from people all the time, even if they aren’t speaking. Body language and their mood is just as important, if not more important at times, than what they are saying.

I don’t know if this is helpful but I believe it has helped me. I’m a good mom. I always put my kids first. I don’t have mom guilt because of that. I know they are well loved and taken care of and they are good kids and that allows me to focus on my business when it’s “business time”. I don’t worry about “did I spend enough time” or “I wish I didn’t scream at them when I was stressed”. That isn’t a worry for me. God and kids come before work. No matter what and that has made my work life much smoother.

If you are early in your journey get a coach. Most offer free trials. Hop around with free trials until you find someone that you connect with. They have already done what you are doing. Don’t try to reinvent the wheel but definitely put your own spin on it. You will have your unique personality and make sure to use THAT. People can tell when someone isn’t being authentic.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?

Networking is so important to anyone’s business and in life in general. I remember joining MOPS (mothers of preschoolers) when my kids were young and I was a SAHM. Community is vital. I’m looking to work with people who are in the health and wellness industry or even those who are just curious about it. I think in 2025 we are going to see a huge shift of people who are going to be taking a harder look at what products they have in their homes that could potentially be toxic. Also, products we put on our skin (our largest organ).
I’d love to work with a group of people from different backgrounds on making toxic products mindlessly easy to not only purchase but to find. There is a lot of clutter in the health and wellness space and a lot of false marketing. You almost need a Phd to shop skincare and household products and that’s ridiculous. It shouldn’t be that way. Shopping for home and family needs that are non-toxic should be the most mindless thing we do but unfortunately as it stands today-it’s one of the most complicated. I’d love to be a part of changing that on a national level.
