Meet Chica De Luz

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Chica De Luz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Chica de, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

It took a lot of inner work and healing honestly.
Being a creative/artist as a woman means you are going against the grain x2 over a cis man,
The entire essence of a creative/artist that is a woman is always going against our social conditioning it’s almost innate that we struggle with imposter syndrome at some point.
Til one day you get tired of shrinking yourself down and you realize you have to undo the wiring that feeds into imposter syndrome and reclaim your power!!!
It’s nice to get to a point where I can celebrate myself and honor my growth finally but it took therapy, my spirituality and mindfulness to overcome imposter syndrome.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Im a creative with Zapotec roots that is born, raised & based in Los Angeles,
I have been a creative my whole life but I didn’t pursue my artistic endeavors full time til Spring of 2020 a few months after I started my sobriety and the pandemic happened also.
I started a small business where I make jewelry and art out of preserved botanicals, my connection to the earth is sacred which sprouted my curiosity during a time where so much death was happening.
Through flower preservation it always reminds me to honor death and life since I’m working with dead florals to give them another chance at life.
Through that I started content creating which led me to freelance for brands/businesses when they started to reach out to me for paid collaborations & influencer partnerships.
In the midst I also started doing photography professionally on the side & this past year I also started Djing with all vinyl.

My whole creative journey is under my brand and name “Chica de Luz” which translates to “Girl of Light” in English because I believe that it is in your darkness that you find your light & the role of the artist is to light a path for many.
My whole creative energy is the darkness I’ve lived/live through that I continuously alchemize into my creativity and use as a driving force.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Definitely discipline! If you can master discipline you can master anything.
You can practice mastering this by cutting off anything you like to decipher the fine line between desire & discipline.
Sometimes discipline looks like not going out as much to stay home and work on your craft. Other times discipline looks like restricting yourself from substances because it takes your body 24 hours to reset after substance is in your body.
Discipline looks different for everyone but you really need to tune in where you need it to eliminate blockages.
