We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amber Huber. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amber below.
Amber, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?
My husband and I, our parents both instilled a strong work ethic in both of us. Also the dream of knowing that one day this business could be the key to us working for ourselves. We work as a team, we both have our different strengths and we have been able to use them in building our business, we couldn’t do it without each other.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
We are just a regular couple my husband and I trying to navigate this crazy world while trying to raise 3 kids to be good humans.
Earlier this year, we decided to try our hand at making a hobby into a side hustle by making and selling our fresh handcrafted peanut butter treats at local farmers markets to make a little extra money cause let’s face it inflation is real.
We didn’t know what would happen, we were hoping we could gradually build it over the next few years and make it grow into something.
We signed up for markets through good4lifemarkets and began selling in June. On September 30th, during one of our last farmers markets of the season, we were selling out peanut butter as usual. It was a slower evening but we still did okay, and after packing up, we headed home, as usual, to see what we made and what inventory we would need for the next weeks market.
That night, I started getting messages on our Instagram and Facebook business pages (we literally had 77 followers on Instagram) these messages were coming from people out of state asking how to buy our peanut butter and if we shipped. Honestly, I thought it was some kind of scam! Then, a potential customer messaged me about how she could order and if I had seen the TikTok video of the guy crying over our peanut butter and she had sent me the video. Wow, I was so shocked that this happened! The video was hilarious, heartwarming, and surreal to see someone enjoying our Churrolicious peanut butter so much that it brought him to tears. At that point, the video already had over 250,000 views and had only been up a few hours! 🤯
This was a customer we had sold a jar too that evening and decided to share the video of her husband’s emotional reaction to tasting our peanut butter for the first time—and the video went organically viral. It has been a crazy and busy few months, but my husband and I are so excited to continue to build our small business and see where it take us, as the sky is the limit and we believe that we have something special. We take pride in making our peanut butters and each flavor is delicious and unique!
Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
Just don’t give up you never know what can happen, keep pushing and working at it. While we know our situation of going organically viral is rare, it just shows if you manifest and keep going you never know when your dreams will take off.
Being dedicated and believing we have something special, just knowing that one day it would happen, also having someone that is there through all the ups and downs, my husband and I are a great team.
How would you spend the next decade if you somehow knew that it was your last?
Trying to figure out how to keep building and growing since the viralness and traction obviously slowed down. Yes we have sent out thousand of jars and hundreds of orders but it still isn’t gaining building like we hoped, but we will just keep going!
