We recently connected with Shant’a Miller White and have shared our conversation below.

Shant’a, we’re so excited for our community to get to know you and learn from your journey and the wisdom you’ve acquired over time. Let’s kick things off with a discussion on self-confidence and self-esteem. How did you develop yours?

How did I develop confidence and self esteem? Great question.. As a child growing up my Grandparents and Godfather constantly poured into me that I was beautiful and amazing! In spite of the situations going on around me I was going to be someone special! Those daily affirmations still stick with me to this day. My Grandparents have passed on but those words and actions are with me daily.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I’m a Mother of 3 beautiful women ,Grandmother 3 amazing grandchildren,motivational speaker, advocate ,entrepreneur, author, member of the Williamsburg Virginia Chapter of the OMICRON XI ZETA AMICAE ,pioneer and leader in my own right. Short in stature (but even bigger in heart) and with every ounce of determination and strength in my being. I founded a non-profit organization: Parents Against Bullying after having experienced a horrible bullying occurrence some years with my daughter, I turned a negative into a positive and vowed to do everything in her power to prevent another child, family or community from going through what my family endured. I have committed my life to serving the youth and families in Hampton Roads and beyond by providing annual events, weekly mentoring sessions, visits to schools and community centers etc.
I have received several accolades not to mention a letter directly from Former First Lady Michelle Obama! At the end of the day helping and walking in my purpose with God’s unchanging hand means more to me than anything!
I will continue to build self-esteem and confidence in our youth and children around the world. I will continue to raise awareness in the community regarding this national epidemic of bullying and Gun violence prevention. We well also continue to provide a support system to those in need. Myself and the entire P.A.B. The team is a force to be reckoned with. I strongly believe that it takes a village to raise a child and having a strong spiritual foundation helps me deal with any and all obstacles to ensure the goals and objectives of Parents Against Bullying are meeting and exceeded!
We have an amazing Puppet Program in Partnership with (SCBC Puppets in Praise Ministry) that is growing daily called STAR Bright Kidz and Friends. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back on this journey, I believe the best qualifications were things that I have gone through situations that I have overcome. Being able to share things that you have experienced are the best things being able to share the times as well as the bright times In other words, sharing those teachable moments being able to still be teachable on a day-to-day basis Is priceless. Having the discernment of learning from your situations learning who to connect to, and who to disconnect from on your journey of business and life in general, it all goes, handed hand. Making sure to continue to educate yourself in the area in which you are becoming the best you that you can be in your business entrepreneurship journey staying on top of new things that are coming out. Making sure to take leadership classes And make sure to have an open mind on things when you are a leader. So with that being said, educate yourself, learn from mistakes and push forward and all things good bad or different are the three takeaways that I have to improve me this journey. Patience, understanding, stability to handle your business The push factor™️.

What’s been one of your main areas of growth this year?

My biggest area of growth and improvement in the last 12 months were learning to remember that this heart work that I do daily that I had to remember that my heart is important to me as well. What I mean by that is people like myself that have a huge heart always giving ,always trying to make sure that others are OK. I had to remember to take a step back and make sure that I am OK that my heart was ok. By doing that allow me to grow in a way that I never imagine. When you take care of your heart because you give your heart out in the work that you do daily, it’s even more important to stay connected to God ! This allowed me to grow even more in all of the areas that I need to growth ! In order to do this work in a healthy way over the last 12 months I had to remember to put God first then worked on me. Even though you love to serve others you need your heart to be healthy in order to do the heart work in the world!
