Meet Khalia Aimee Kenny

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Khalia Aimee Kenny. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Khalia Aimee , thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

Resilience—that word has been coming up a lot for me lately. In my view, resilience is something we develop through our experiences. Life presents us with countless challenges, and as long as we approach them as opportunities to learn and grow, we become better equipped to adapt and navigate even more situations. From an early age, I encountered tests that no child should face. Navigating life independently, I transformed these hardships into motivation, determined not to become a product of my environment. While the journey hasn’t always been smooth, I view any loss as a hidden gain, embracing each as a valuable lesson. I have been lucky and fortunate to have built strong bonds with people that have supported me along the way. I always attract great individuals who push me to me to being a better version of myself. Despite it all, I was blessed with an optimistic outlook, a loving heart, and a strong spirit, which helped me push through. I have countless stories to share, but I’ll save those for the right moments along my journey.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

This question genuinely brought me joy because it made me pause and reflect on what I actually do, something we rarely take the time for since we are usually focused on the next goal. Once we accomplish one thing, we are immediately onto the next. I’ve been a Registered Medical Assistant since 2016 and became a Licensed Esthetician in 2021. My approach to both professions is rooted in practicing diversity and empathy, which enables me to work with different mindsets and provide great care and service to my clients and patients. Looking ahead to 2025, I’m thrilled to focus on my work as an esthetician- working one on one with individuals while channeling all my knowledge, skills, and experiences into my entrepreneurial venture, Ella Allure Skin. This business is truly my passion project—I’ve been nurturing it for years, working patiently and quietly behind the scenes. I’m dedicated to the success and growth of Ella Allure Skin as it attracts opportunities that take myself and this business to new improved heights.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

One of the most valuable aspects of my journey has been the hard work I’ve put in. It’s not a facade—my resume reflects the legitimacy and credibility of my efforts. I’ve spent over a decade serving the community, working with individuals from all walks of life—ranging from those in extreme poverty to the highly successful. This experience has broadened my perspective and taught me the importance of maintaining an open mind. No matter how challenging or uncertain life may seem at times, I will never let anyone diminish the dedication I’ve shown, especially in the face of obstacles I’ve overcome. Additionally, understanding the concept of a higher power has been deeply impactful. Whether you believe in God, Allah, spiritual forces, or universal energies, life’s challenges are often designed to strengthen you. There were moments when I felt cornered, but calling on that higher power gave me the strength and upliftment I needed to push forward. As a final piece of advice, choose empathy and curiosity vs being judgmental. When you know better, you do better. Be kind to yourself about what you don’t yet know, and focus on embracing the journey of learning and growth.

We’ve all got limited resources, time, energy, focus etc – so if you had to choose between going all in on your strengths or working on areas where you aren’t as strong, what would you choose?

I believe it’s crucial to fully lean into your strengths and trust that everything else will improve as you navigate your journey. Self-care can be a great strength and the foundation of everything you do. It can provide you with mental clarity and support sustained well-being, this is one of my most valuable attributes. Self-care allows you to stay focused on tasks, confident that you can handle them effectively. It equips you to face workplace challenges—like tight deadlines or conflicts—with calmness and constructive energy. By being in a true self-care mindset, you can better manage stress, think creatively, and solve problems innovatively. For example my life has been a true roller coaster but my ability to do self care activities like working out, reading, practicing my love for skincare etc has helped me cope with the challenges of life. However, with self-care being such a strong suit, I recognize that I need to improve in areas like clearly communicating my needs. I often treat asking for help as if it’s a weakness—something I’m actively working to overcome. As I continue on this journey, I aim to embrace the idea that seeking support is not only okay but essential for growth.
