We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Alexis Abdulraheem a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Alexis, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
Overcoming imposter syndrome was not an overnight journey for me—it was a process of unlearning, reframing, and rediscovering my own power. When I started Daring Daughters Inc., I wrestled with this overwhelming voice in my head telling me, ‘You’re not enough. Who are you to lead other women?’ That voice came from years of doubting myself and comparing my progress to others. But deep down, I knew my story mattered.
For so long, I felt like I was carrying the weight of expectations I never agreed to, trying to measure up to a standard that wasn’t mine. The turning point came when I realized that every struggle I faced—every failure, every moment of doubt—was shaping me into the woman I needed to be for the girls and women Daring Daughters Inc. serves.
I started asking myself, ‘If not me, then who?’ There are young women out there who feel unseen, who need a role model to tell them they are capable of breaking cycles and creating legacies. I learned to embrace my imperfections as proof of my resilience and to celebrate the unique perspective I bring to the table.
I also leaned heavily on my community. Surrounding myself with people who believed in my vision, even on days when I doubted it, reminded me of my purpose. Therapy played a huge role too—helping me unpack those feelings of not being ‘enough’ and reframing them as fuel for growth.
Imposter syndrome still tries to creep in occasionally, but now I see it as a sign that I’m stepping outside my comfort zone and growing. When I doubt myself, I think of the lives Daring Daughters Inc. has touched—the single moms finding stability, the young women who now believe in their dreams, and the cycles of pain we’re breaking together. That’s what keeps me grounded and reminds me that I am exactly where I need to be.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
I am the founder of Daring Daughters Inc., an organization dedicated to uplifting women and young girls to break generational cycles and dare to dream beyond their circumstances. What makes Daring Daughters Inc. so special is its foundation—it’s built on a deep understanding of resilience, community, and the power of healing. This isn’t just an organization; it’s a movement.
What excites me the most is witnessing transformation in real-time. Seeing a young girl go from doubting her worth to stepping boldly into her purpose, or helping a mother realize she’s more than capable of creating a better future for her children—those moments are priceless. It’s not just about providing resources or guidance; it’s about planting seeds of belief and watching them grow into something extraordinary.
What sets us apart is our approach. We don’t focus solely on providing tools; we focus on creating safe spaces for women to heal and rediscover themselves. Whether it’s through workshops, mentoring programs, or events that celebrate women’s stories, we are about creating a sisterhood where no one feels alone in their journey.
As for what’s next, I’m thrilled to announce our upcoming initiative, Daring to Heal: A Journey of Growth and Connection. It’s a series of intimate workshops where women can learn, connect, and heal together. We’ll also be hosting a special event next Mother’s Day to honor and celebrate the resilience of mothers everywhere, tying into the release of my book Heels and Healing: Breaking the Bond. This book is deeply personal, sharing my story of overcoming adversity, and I hope it inspires others to break free from anything holding them back.
To anyone reading this, I want you to know this: you are capable of more than you realize. Your story—no matter how messy or painful—is your strength. At Daring Daughters Inc., we’re here to walk alongside you as you dare to create the life you deserve. Together, we can break barriers, shatter glass ceilings, and build legacies that inspire generations to come.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Looking back, three qualities absolutely instrumental in my journey: resilience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to embrace continuous learning.
Resilience was the backbone of everything I’ve achieved. There were moments when I felt completely defeated, like the odds were stacked against me—but I refused to let setbacks define my story. Instead, I viewed them as steppingstones to something greater. To develop resilience, I’d advise people to focus on their ‘why.’ When your purpose is clear, it becomes your anchor in the storm. Practice gratitude daily and surround yourself with a community that reminds you of your strength even when you doubt it.
Emotional intelligence was another game-changer. It allowed me to navigate challenges, build meaningful relationships, and lead with empathy. Understanding my own emotions and learning how to manage them helped me make clearer decisions, even in high-pressure situations. For anyone looking to grow in this area, I’d say start with self-awareness. Reflect on how you respond to stress, criticism, and success. Then, work on building stronger connections by genuinely listening and communicating with others.
Lastly, a commitment to continuous learning kept me evolving. Whether it was learning from books, mentors, or my own experiences, I never allowed myself to believe I had it all figured out. Every mistake became a lesson, and every success became a reminder to stay humble and hungry. For those early in their journey, invest in your personal and professional growth. Seek out mentors, stay curious, and never stop asking, ‘What can I do better?’
My advice to anyone starting out is this: Be patient with yourself. Growth takes time. Embrace failure as part of the process and trust that every step—no matter how small—is leading you toward your purpose. Most importantly, don’t forget to celebrate the small wins along the way. Those moments of progress are proof that you’re moving in the right direction.

Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely, collaboration is at the heart of what we do at Daring Daughters Inc. This movement is bigger than one person or organization—it’s about bringing together people who believe in the power of change and the potential of women and girls to transform their lives and communities.
To our community members: We need your voices, your hands, and your hearts. Whether you have time to volunteer, skills to share, or simply a desire to make a difference, there’s a place for you in this mission. You are the lifeblood of what we do, and your involvement can help us reach even more women and girls in need.
To sponsors and business leaders: Your support allows us to dream bigger and do more. By partnering with Daring Daughters Inc., you’re not just supporting an organization—you’re investing in lives, families, and futures. We’re seeking partners who share our vision of empowerment and are ready to help us expand our reach through funding, resources, and strategic collaborations.
To community leaders and those who own buildings: We’re looking for spaces where transformation can happen.
