Meet Ani Gurgenidze

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ani Gurgenidze a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Ani, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?

I believe confidence has roots in a family and a way of upbringing. I grew up in a loving family everyone around me was warm and kind. I think this has a big affect on us as adults. Although we have to work on ourselves and try to improve. If you don’t believe in yourself who else will? When I moved to US nine years ago I was only 20.First few years was really challenging for me. To live abroad far from your home country is difficult. I think those years help me grow a lot and look at my life with a different perspective. I went to college for psychology and graduated just now. I remember once my psychology professor told us this: ” When you wake up in the morning look in the mirror and tell yourself you are beautiful, you are smart and you are worthy”. She said we are not always lucky enough to have people around us who tell us compliments all the time and who lift our spirits up so we have to do this by ourselves. This is still stuck in my head after many years and one of the best self-improvement advices I’ve ever recieved. Confidence is a feeling about yourself. It is when you feel enough and whole besides of what other people think of you. You will never be enough for other people. You have to cheer yourself up and tell yourself that you are worthy and you can achieve great things in life.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

When my son was diagnosed with ADHD and ASD back in 2019. I decided to learn a new skill that would allow me to work from home and spend more time with my children. I was eager to build something on my own. I think my child’s diagnoses has made me more resilient and strong. Once I started to learn about flowers I fell in love with it. I’m introvert and working on projects in my home studio has been a dream job for me. Flowers are living and they can tell stories and express emotions. Right now I’m more focused on weddings. I try to meet every couple via Zoom and we talk a lot. I always try to learn what their personalities are like because then I know what flowers to use and how I want flowers to tell their stories and express their personalities. I want to know every single detail about the couple from how they met to what music they listen to. I’m excited to do every wedding big or small. It’s always a new experience and it is very personal to me.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say for me it has been confidence, resilience and interpersonal skills. Never be afraid to start. You will never feel enough or ready to start something. Just go for it and trust me you will figure it out. Don’t listen to what other people have to say. Focus on yourself and your goals. Life is very short to live it the way other people think you should live it.

As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?

I would say one of the influential books I’ve read had been Outliers by Malcolm Gladwell.
” Success is is not a random act. It arises out of predictable and powerful set of circumstances and opportunities.”
“Who we are can not be separated to where we’re from”
