We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Derdine Brown a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Derdine , we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
Simply put being Haitian. Haitians are known to be resilient folks. The Haitian people have endured many pains s suffering from history to even today . Yet we continue to focus on what we have control over and do what we can. It’s in the culture.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I’m the creator and founder of Sip and Stretch Date Night, a unique experience designed to help couples build intimacy in a non-sexual way. My classes combine partner yoga movements, a fun playlist , and a touch of elegance with wine to create a safe and fun environment where couples can connect, unwind, and be present
What excites me most about what I do is witnessing the transformation in the room—couples walk in curious but reserved, and by the end of the session, they leave more connected and in tune with each other. It’s special to know that I’m helping people cultivate intimacy through movement, mindfulness,, all while creating a joyful and memorable experience.
Beyond Sip and Stretch, I’m also a mental health therapist, so I’m passionate about promoting overall wellness,
My goal is to inspire couples to prioritize their relationship in a meaningful and fun way!
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1. Resilience: Building a business or pursuing a dream isn’t always smooth sailing. There were moments when I faced setbacks or felt overwhelmed, but staying resilient—refocusing on my goals and finding solutions—allowed me to keep moving forward.
Advice: Strengthen your ability to overcome challenges by staying clear on your “why.” Your passion and purpose will keep you grounded when things get tough.
2. Authenticity: Being true to myself and my vision has been a cornerstone of success. I created Sip and Stretch Date Night because I genuinely believe in the power of connection and intimacy. By leading with authenticity, I’ve been able to connect deeply with my audience and build a brand that feels real and relatable.
Advice: Stay true to who you are. People are drawn to genuine energy, and your authenticity will set you apart. Don’t try to imitate others—lean into your unique perspective and passion.
3. Support: No journey is truly solo. Whether it was the guidance of mentors, encouragement from loved ones, or simply finding the right team, having a strong support system made all the difference.
Advice: Build your village. Seek out people who believe in you and your vision, and don’t hesitate to ask for help or advice. Surround yourself with positivity and collaboration—it’s a game changer.
Okay, so before we go we always love to ask if you are looking for folks to partner or collaborate with?
Absolutely! I’m always looking for passionate, like-minded individuals and businesses to partner or collaborate with. Sip and Stretch Date Night thrives on creativity and community, so I’m particularly interested in collaborating with:
Media & Influencers: People with platforms who want to showcase innovative ways to prioritize love and intimacy in relationships.
Brands & Creatives: Businesses in lifestyle, wellness, wine, or music that align with the vibe and mission of fostering relaxation, connection, and joy
