Meet Jt Rivers

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Jt Rivers. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with JT below.

JT, so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

Through sheer hunger to at least arrive on the path to be great. There comes a level where you say, “Okay, now I really am on my way”. And nobody’s perception of you can sway that. That’s in large part what the band is all about. Trying to shine hope into the lives of those that have become too comfortable apologizing for who they are or who they’re trying to become. We overcame imposter syndrome by reminding each other that it’s the journey and not the destination

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am JT Rivers and I play guitar in an up and coming rock band called The Eye See You’s. We’re from the often chaotic streets of Portland, Oregon. In the summer of 2024 our lives changed upon a chance meeting at a now defunct musicians hangout called The Big Legrowlski. I had been banging away at jagged blues riffs on the high risen stage when, in the crowd, I spotted a psychedelic shirt laden Leila seriously appreciating the music. After sharing an impromptu jam of harmonies that’d make John and Paul blush, we knew our mission had begun. The Eye See You’s are – Aadit, JT, Felicity, and Leila. Our mission is to show the local scene that being the person that refuses to act cool to fit in is in fact the coolest thing you can be. It’s a hard time for a lot of people. Let’s march down the streets with our guitars and make a fuss.

Our next show is Feb 4. at No Fun Bar in Portland, Oregon. Show starts at 7:00 and will be $10. Please come out!

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Number one thing for a band is you have to know what you stand for. Then write music that reflects that.

Number two is to develop people skills. We go out to shows and hang with other artist. We hand out flyers for every show. We strive to give back to the community. It’ll return the favor in the most beautiful of ways.

Third – know your limits. When you need help in your endeavors ASK. Surround yourself with those that have the skills to take you to the next level. We are the company that we keep.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

Yes if anyone from Jagjaguwar records, Subpop, Matador, or any other cool record labels would like for us to open for their bands.. we are so down!

We want anyone out there reading this to know that we will open for your band. We are professional. Although we love the craft of songwriting, we don’t take ourselves TOO seriously. And we can rock the speakers off a 50 watt tube amp. Find us on Instagram/Facebook @TheEyeSeeYous, book us at TheEyeSeeYous@Gmail.com
