Meet Suleida & Naron Dubose

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Suleida & Naron Dubose. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Suleida & Naron, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

My name is Suleida, and my partner Naron and I have both faced the weight of imposter syndrome in different forms. My imposter syndrome was related to my time in law school. Law school has been a journey marked by challenges and growth. As a third-year law student, I can honestly say that the road has not been easy. Settling into this world felt foreign, especially as a minority in a field where we make up only four percent. Out of the one hundred thirty-five students in my class, there were just three Hispanic students, including myself.

Being a first-generation student added another layer of difficulty. While many of my peers came from families of attorneys, I did not have that same foundation to lean on. My first year was especially tough. I had to work two jobs just to make ends meet, something that is almost unheard of in law school. It showed in my grades, and I felt incredibly discouraged at times.

However, despite the self-doubt, I held on to my dream. Becoming a lawyer was not just my passion; I truly believed it was my calling, the path God had set for me. I refused to give up, and I learned the power of remembering my “why.” Holding onto the vision of what I wanted to achieve gave me the strength to silence the voices of self-doubt and to persevere, even when I felt like I was not enough.

I cannot speak about my journey without acknowledging the role of prayer. Through God’s strength, I was able to balance working two jobs while successfully passing my first year of law school. I reminded myself of who I am: a daughter of the King, blessed and chosen. God would not bring me this far just to see me fail.

So I embraced the challenges instead of running from them. Yes, it was hard. Yes, I had to work twice as hard as many of my peers. But I shifted my mindset from, “I have to be like them” to “I just need to focus on God, do my best, and trust that He will handle the rest.”

And He did. Today, I stand as a testament to God’s faithfulness. Not only have I overcome the struggles of law school, but I have also secured a job for after I pass the bar, something many of my classmates are still searching for.

I have learned that I do belong. My journey taught me that perseverance, faith, and trust in God’s plan make all the difference. To anyone else struggling with self-doubt, remember your “why,” lean into your faith, and know that you are exactly where you are meant to be.

My name is Naron, and I have deeply struggled with imposter syndrome in the realm of creativity. Starting a new brand might appear simple from the outside, but the reality is far more daunting. When I look at the countless established brands that are loved and recognized worldwide, doubt inevitably creeps in. Doubt about whether I have what it takes, whether I will succeed, or even whether I belong in this space at all. As a young man trying to make his mark, those whispers of self-doubt often feel overwhelming: “How can you possibly compete with them?”

These businesses are giants, well-established and celebrated, while I am just starting out. No one knows my name or my brand. And as the saying goes, “comparison is the thief of joy,” a truth I have felt firsthand. The moments I allowed myself to compare my journey to theirs left me feeling inadequate and disheartened.

However, through my faith in Christ, I have come to understand that my focus should not be on them. it should be on Him. In John 21, as Peter walks with Jesus and notices John nearby, he asks, “What about him?” Jesus responds with a simple yet profound directive: “Do not worry about him; you, Peter, follow me.”

This passage has spoken to me deeply. When I see these established businesses, which represent John in this context, I hear Jesus gently reminding me to focus on Him. That shift in perspective has been life-changing. It has freed me from the chains of comparison and from the fear of not being enough.

Now, I am able to create with a renewed sense of joy, passion, and purpose. I no longer see the “giants” in the creative world as competitors; I see them as part of a larger landscape, each with its own purpose. I focus on the unique vision and calling God has placed on my heart. Through Heir, I am able to express my art freely, knowing that my work is a reflection of the gifts He has given me.

In letting go of comparison and fixing my eyes on Christ, I have found freedom, not just in creativity, but in purpose. I create now, not to compete, but to glorify God through the passion He has placed within me.

Both of our journeys, though different, reflect the universal struggles of doubt, comparison, and the weight of feeling like we do not belong. Whether it was navigating the challenges of law school as a first-generation student or stepping into the creative world to build a brand from the ground up, we have both faced moments where self-doubt felt louder than our purpose. Yet, through these challenges, we have learned a powerful truth: when you shift your focus from the noise of the world to the voice of God, everything changes. He reminds us, as He did Peter, to stop looking around at others and to follow Him. By keeping our eyes on Christ, we have found strength, freedom, and purpose to pursue the paths He has called us to. To anyone who feels overwhelmed or out of place, remember that you were created with a unique purpose. Your story, your calling, and your gifts matter. God has not brought you this far to leave you now. Trust Him, stay faithful, and know that in His timing, you will not only overcome but thrive.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

Looking back, three key qualities shaped our journey and had the most impact: having a Christ-centered vision and purpose, cultivating adaptability with a growth mindset, and building meaningful relationships through collaboration. A clear vision grounded in Christ provides direction and strength, especially during challenges. Knowing that our work aligns with God’s purpose gave us resilience and focus when obstacles arose. For anyone starting their journey, we encourage deep reflection on how your faith informs your purpose. Pray for clarity and seek to align your goals with the calling Christ has placed on your heart.

Adaptability rooted in trust in Christ was another essential skill. Life is unpredictable, but embracing a mindset of growth and leaning on Christ’s guidance helped us navigate changes and learn from mistakes. For those early in their journey, remember that challenges are opportunities for God to grow and refine you. Be open to His redirection, and trust that He is working all things for your good.

Finally, building authentic, Christ-centered relationships was vital. Success is rarely achieved alone, and surrounding ourselves with people who shared a heart for Christ and a commitment to excellence allowed us to grow in ways we could not have on our own. For those starting out, seek fellowship with others who encourage you in your walk with Christ and inspire you to be your best. Collaboration fueled by a shared faith can spark opportunities and innovation that honor God and bless others.

Our advice for anyone beginning their journey is to keep Christ at the center of everything you do. Be intentional about learning, remain adaptable, and invest in meaningful relationships. Do not hesitate to ask for help when needed, there is no shame in reaching out to others who have the knowledge, skills, or experience you lack. Trying to do everything on your own can lead to unnecessary struggles, but God often works through others to provide the wisdom and support we need. Surround yourself with mentors, friends, and collaborators who reflect Christ’s love and are willing to walk alongside you. Trust that as you step out in faith, God will guide your steps and use every challenge and connection to fulfill His purpose for your life.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

When overwhelmed, we have identified simple, meaningful, and practical solutions to navigate anxiety and regain peace. The first step is acknowledging God. Psalm 100:4 (ESV) states, “Enter His gates with thanksgiving, and His courts with praise.” Begin by thanking God for His grace, love, and mercy, recognizing that without Him, life would fall into disarray.

The second solution is to remain present. To “be where your feet are” involves categorizing your thoughts into two groups: what is happening now and what pertains to the future. Your present moment, where your feet are, takes priority. Future concerns can remain where they belong, in the future. By focusing on the present, you prioritize effectively and reduce anxiety.

The third solution is to evaluate whether worrying adds any value to your life. Jesus posed this question in Matthew 6, and the answer remains clear, worrying adds no benefit. If it serves no purpose, why engage in it?

By acknowledging God, staying present, and assessing the futility of worry, we arrive at the fourth and final solution: letting go. 1 Peter 5:7 (ESV) instructs us to “cast all your anxieties on Him because He cares for you.” To cast your cares means to release them entirely, trusting God to handle what you cannot.

A practical example of how to work through being overwhelmed in business can be seen in delegation. Anxiety often increases when we try to carry every responsibility on our own. By identifying tasks that can be entrusted to others, we lighten our load and create space to focus on what truly requires our attention. Delegation not only helps reduce stress but also fosters teamwork and allows others to contribute meaningfully. It is a tangible way to prioritize effectively and regain a sense of balance.

As creations of God, we come with a lifetime warranty from our Creator. When challenges arise, we should turn to Him for guidance and restoration. Whenever life feels overwhelming, let go of every anxious thought and action to the Lord, trust Him fully, and allow others to support you through delegation.
