Meet Yosi Arbib

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Yosi Arbib a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi YOSI, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

My work ethic stems from my upbringing and life experiences. Born and raised to immigrant parents in Los Angeles, I grew up with the values of hard work, perseverance, and resourcefulness. As a third-generation builder, entrepreneurship is in my blood, and I learned the importance of starting from the ground up—literally—digging trenches and counting bolts before eventually starting my own construction business.

Earning a bachelor’s degree in finance and traveling the world, including time spent living in Europe, added to my perspective and inspired me with architectural ideas and cultural influences. From humble beginnings, I’ve built a reputable business alongside my family and loved ones, embodying the determination, adaptability, and vision that define my work ethic.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am the owner and founder of Arbib & Sons Construction Inc, a construction company specializing in hillside construction, luxury new construction, foundation repair & home remodeling. Our work is rooted in three generations of expertise in construction, and what excites me most is transforming challenging concepts into tangible structures that stand the test of time. Whether it’s stabilizing a hillside property or creating custom dream homes, we take pride in solving complex problems with precision and creativity.

What makes our work special is the personal touch we bring to every project. We collaborate closely with our clients, tailoring solutions to meet their unique needs while upholding the highest standards of craftsmanship. It’s about more than just building structures—it’s about building trust, delivering quality, and creating spaces that inspire.

Currently, we’re focused on expanding our services to include free initial foundation inspections, which we hope will make us a go-to resource for homeowners and real estate agents navigating the escrow process. We’re also planning to launch a series of community workshops to educate property owners about construction best practices and foundational safety.

Ultimately, our goal is to be a leader in the industry by combining innovative approaches with timeless principles, always putting our clients’ visions at the center of what we do

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Looking back, three qualities that were most impactful in my journey are resilience, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous learning. Here’s how these traits shaped my path and advice for others on cultivating them:

Resilience: Challenges are inevitable, especially when building a business or pursuing a dream. For me, resilience meant persevering through setbacks, whether it was handling construction delays or managing financial hurdles.
Advice: Focus on building mental toughness by embracing challenges as opportunities for growth. Learn to reframe failures as lessons and surround yourself with supportive mentors and peers who can guide you during tough times.

Adaptability: The construction industry, like many others, constantly evolves with new technologies, methods, and regulations. Being open to change allowed me to incorporate innovative techniques and stay competitive.
Advice: Develop adaptability by staying curious and flexible. Stay informed about industry trends, and don’t be afraid to pivot your strategies when circumstances demand it.

Commitment to Continuous Learning: My educational background in finance, combined with real-world experience, has been invaluable. Additionally, learning from architectural styles while traveling expanded my perspective.
Advice: Prioritize lifelong learning by seeking out new experiences, enrolling in courses, and actively seeking feedback from others. Diversify your knowledge base, as it can often lead to unexpected insights and opportunities.

For those starting their journey, remember that success is not a straight path. Focus on progress rather than perfection, and don’t hesitate to invest in relationships, knowledge, and self-improvement. These foundations will serve you well no matter where your journey leads.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?

One book that has significantly influenced my development is “The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People” by Stephen R. Covey. It’s a timeless guide for personal and professional growth, offering principles that resonate deeply with building a business and leading a balanced life.

Here are a few impactful takeaways:

Be Proactive: Covey emphasizes focusing on what we can control and taking responsibility for our actions. This mindset has been instrumental in managing challenges, especially in construction, where unexpected issues often arise.

Begin with the End in Mind: Visualizing the desired outcome helps align actions with long-term goals. This principle has guided me in creating a clear vision for my business and sticking to it through every phase.

Put First Things First: Covey’s insights on prioritization taught me to focus on what truly matters—balancing urgent tasks with important ones and ensuring my energy goes into projects that align with my core values.

Another influential read is “Think and Grow Rich” by Napoleon Hill, which instills the importance of perseverance, goal-setting, and maintaining a positive mindset. Hill’s principle of having a “definite major purpose” has been pivotal in staying focused on my business’s mission despite distractions or setbacks.

These books remind us that success comes from internal discipline, strategic thinking, and consistent self-improvement. For those starting their journey, I highly recommend reading them with an open mind and applying the principles to your unique context.
