Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nikkia T Neal. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Nikkia T, looking forward to learning from your journey. You’ve got an amazing story and before we dive into that, let’s start with an important building block. Where do you get your work ethic from?

I am a classically trained dancer and if you know anything about professional dance training, you know it is intense and it requires a lot of patience and discipline, but the beauty in the outcome of all that hard work is undeniable. I am also a perfectionist, to an extent, so I take meticulous pride in every detail of the creation process of every January Baby product. I would’nt want to purchase anything that does’nt meet luxurious standards, even if it isn’t at a luxurious price point and as a consumer, no matter how much an item costs, if it is of excellent quality it will draw costumers for the long hall. I keep my costumers at the forefront, always thinking what would make them happy and I create until they are more than satisfied.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

January Baby (JB) was built on a mission to find healthy alternative skin care for myself. I never thought in a million years that it would grow into a business, let alone a business that has the potential to flourish beyond my wildest dreams. I worked tirelessly on the formula, with many failed attempts, before I discovered the one that my customers can’t get enough of. How did this thing that I could’nt have ever imagined turned into a business venture based on passion, relentless work ethic, and faith? The only answer I could come up with is that it was written in my destiny. It was always part of God’s plan for my life and it’s still growing. I’m currently in talks about partnering with other entrepreneurs to expose and expand the JB product line and I’m always looking for ways to improve to keep my costumers-I call them JB RockStarz- on their toes.

I dont know that JB is different from any other natural, shea butter based moisturizer on the market, but I do know it is a masterfully crafted work of the heart. So much detail and love go into every fragrance selection, ingredient quality, and jar presentation and I could’nt be prouder that I have built something I can pass down to my daughter and generations to come. The best part is that I get to share it with anyone who is willing to try and go on the journey with me.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three most important qualities, skills or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in this journey are:

-never stop trying and don’t be afraid to make mistakes
-seek wisdom from those who have been successful
-keep your business to yourself until it’s perfected and protected

There are people who will try to deter and discourage you along the journey and who knows what their motives are, but you have to stay positive and laser focused on the goal. Surround yourself with wisdom and people who are where you desire to be and be teachable at all times. Finally, be strategic about who you share the details with because their are those who will try to sabotage and/or copy your brilliance and claim it as their own.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

Trying to find time to invest the effort needed to be successful. Working full time and being the sole person in operations is a whirlwind and it can take a toll on you, but it isn’t impossible. With sacrifice and persistence, it won’t always be so hard.
