Meet Leanne Ross

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Leanne Ross a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Leanne, appreciate you sitting with us today to share your wisdom with our readers. So, let’s start with resilience – where do you get your resilience from?

When I reflect on my resilience, it always takes me back to a conversation I used to have with others;

“Why do these things always happen to me?”

This was a repeated phrase that I’d throw into conversation on a fairly frequent basis.

“I don’t know Leanne. It’s such a shame… These things always do seem to happen to you, don’t they?”

Whether it was relationships, friendships, jobs or general misfortune events, everything DID seem to happen to me.

I had always had a great life but always seemed to find myself in adverse situations, experiencing difficulties and challenges that felt out with the norm for your typical life experiences.

I’m quite an analytical person and would often spend hours trying to unpick and decipher how the latest drama had materialised in my life. Being a Trauma Trainer, I was aware that people, who have experienced a lot of adversity in their lives, sometimes engage in a trauma response where they seek chaos because that is their ‘normal’ and is familiar to them.
But I knew, deep down, hand on heart, that this was not what was happening to me.

So what was?
A run of bad luck?
Bad Karma?
Was I just ‘that type of person’ who would simply always attract drama into their life?

I spent years trying to find the answers and kept repeating the phrase “Why does this always happen to me?”
After witnessing numerous challenges in my life, those close to me also began to repeat this phrase back to me. Together we would ponder over, what felt like a continued cycle of drama and misfortune; “Why does this always happen?'”.

At this point, I began to immerse myself in Spirituality. I had dabbled with Spirituality in my past but the more adversity I experienced, the more I sought for answers from a higher being or power.

I began to dive into concepts such as the Law of Attraction, having read ‘The Secret’ by Rhonda Byrne,
The Law of Attraction is based on a concept of Quantum Physics; We are all made up of energy and the energy that we are putting out, we attract. So, in effect, negative energy reaps negative thoughts and results. So, if I was to change things to feel more positive then, in accordance to the Law of Attraction, I would receive positive results and feel more positive about myself and my life!

Similarly, I began to refer to Emotional Vibrational Frequencies. When referring to an Emotional Frequencies diagram, it clearly depicts that emotions such as joy, love and peace help us to be ‘high vibe’ and ‘low vibe’ energy is when we experience anger, fear and guilt. If we shift to being ‘high vibe’ we will, inevitably, attract more happiness into our lives. This all started to make sense to me and was inline with what I saw of others; Happy people tended to skim through life, care free and content whilst people who were negative seemed to live through consistent struggle and misfortune.

I began to realise that my anxiety was so high and I was so hyper focused on things going wrong, that I was missing out on what was going right for me. Every challenge, draw back or injustice within my life I became obsessed with and fell into a pit of despair where I could only focus on what was going wrong. It appeared that I had been blinkered at the fact that there were so many good areas in my life too, that I simply was not acknowledging.

When leaning more into Spirituality, I realised that I had spent the last few years in fear, anxiety and not feeling safe within myself, with others or in my environments. I wanted to shift away from this and begin to focus on the good areas in my life and to feel grateful for them.

I decided, at this point, that I had a choice, These incidents may continue to happen but, having the choice of how I managed these incidents, made me feel hopeful for the future and empowered to make changes in my life happen.

Shifting my way of thinking became a saving grace. It became my way out and my way to feel empowered, no matter what happened, I was always in control around how these incidents affected me.

Now… I would love to say that my life completely changed, that I had no more adversity and was filled with abundance whilst I skipped along wearing my rose tinted glasses – not exactly…. I went through a lot of healing and obtained a lot of support to allow me to process my traumas. Reframing and having a more positive outlook in life is important but it can take some time to get there.

Healing from adversity isn’t a quick fix. It is a continued journey that has diversions, blockages and different paths. It is rocky, slippery, uneven and, at times, you feel lost. Wondering why you chose to go a certain way. And then you retract your steps, falling into negative patterns of behaviour again because the path feels familiar. But when you reach that point and begin to recognise that happiness supersedes adversity, you will continue on this path with no regrets.

Since changing my life perception, through spirituality and reframing my adversity into positive learning curves, my life has completely evolved and changed for the better. Time and time again, I choose to step away from adversity and towards happiness and it is such an empowering choice to make! Turning my adversity into my super power fuels my resilience.

To this day, I still am not sure why I suffered from so many challenging situations. Was it because these events were part of my life purpose and would give me so much drive to live a better quality of life, leading me to a career where I was empowered to support others to do the same? Or was it because I was attracting these events, because I was in a rut and feeling negative; thus continuing to further attract adversity.

I suspect a bit of both.

Irrespective of the cause, my experiences led me to finding my purpose and ignited a spark, within me, that will never go out. I will always strive to have the best life and will never give up on my clients to find the same. I embrace choice, I embrace my learning and love to use it to inform how I want to life my live moving forward.

I always want more, I seek more, I strive for more. Having spent so many years in the darkness of anxiety and despair, the simple fact is – I don’t accept that anymore. I want better for myself.

Wanting more for yourself pushes you to do everything in your power to obtain happiness.

You begin to reframe your adversity
You begin to prioritise your health
You start to make more of an effort to increase joy in your life
You start to feel grateful
You practice gratitudes
You start to dive into the meaning of life
You find and reestablish your beliefs
You learn your purpose.
You feel more empowered to say no to the things and people than no longer serve you
You begin to say yes to happiness
You begin to heal
You begin to develop your resilience
You find your voice
You use your voice!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

My name is Leanne Ross and I am the Founder and Coach of Happylieuya Coaching and Mentoring.

I set up my business because, having experienced a lot of turmoil in my life, I wanted to help people in a way that was informed by my professional and personal experiences. Empowerment is everything so I always ensure I embed this heavily within my scope of coaching practice.

The first branch of my business supports women who give a lot to their career because they are striving for success. They often aspire to live a better quality of life so work extremely hard to obtain that goal but, as a consequence, fall into a pattern of chronic stress, burn out and repeatedly have to sacrifice their personal life for their professional careers.

My second branch is to support businesses and organisations with work place wellbeing. I do this through workshops, training, intricate gap analysis and consultations.

I also provide coaching to individuals through 1:1 sessions, group sessions and through self study courses. I aim to cater to different learning styles and coaching preferences.

My Services include;
My Stress to Success Programme – for Women
My workplace wellbeing supports – for businesses requiring support with Wellbeing Consultations and Strategies
My monthly membership – open to all!
1:1 Coaching Packages – open to all!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

My 3 main pieces of advice that have led to the biggest impact for me is;

1) Always follow your intuition

Learning to tune into and follow your intuition is one of the most impactful skill sets you can develop. It has helped me countless times to make decision that are aligned with my values and vision. It has also helped me to risk assess in areas that I was unsure of and has helped me to deepen my connection with my mind, body, soul and my belief system. I would recommend reading ‘The Gift of Fear’ by Gavin De Becker which is an excellent book that supports tuning into intuitive gut feelings.

2) For every adverse experience, find learning from it and use it to inform your next steps in life.

This has been the best way to help me to reframe adverse experiences and use them to my advantage. Learning from past events and turning negative perceptions into positive ones has helped me to feel empowered, inspired and has encouraged me to move forward towards a continued better lifestyle.

3) Invest in yourself

Whether it is time, energy or money, invest in yourself! I have developed and grown so much by reading books, hiring coaches, experimenting in holistic practices and expanding my knowledge and skill set by signing up to further certifications. I ensure that I protect time to engage in self care and prioritise spending my time with people who matter most. Investing in yourself increases self love, self compassion, self worth and self confidence. It truly is a beautiful gift to give to yourself!

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I am always happy to collaborate with like minded people!
