Meet La Toya Randolph

We were lucky to catch up with La Toya Randolph recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi La Toya, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?

Since I was a little girl I would pray to own a business, but I never knew what kind of business I wanted to own. In my early 30’s I decided to go back to school to become a dental professional where I worked in the dental field for 11 years. When COVID came about I was temporarily laid off until dental professionals were able to go back to work. Once I was able to return to work things started to get stressful to the point I realized I wanted to work for myself. I would pray about it. One day God answered my prayers. That’s when I decided to step out on faith. I took classes to learn how to do microblading and lash extensions. That’s when I realized I have a niche for beauty. After I got certified. I went to get all my licenses so that I was able to open my business. I’m now living in my purpose. I love helping people feel their best. Knowing that I can give my clients a new look to boost their confidence, making them feel pampered, or offering advice on how they can bring out the best look in themselves, it’s extremely rewarding.

As a passionate business owner in the beauty industry, I am constantly inspired by the transformative power of beauty and its ability to empower individuals. My journey began with a deep love for helping others that sparked my personal experiences which showed me how a simple touch of makeup could boost confidence and self-esteem. I take immense joy in helping my clients feel beautiful and confident, and their stories of transformation fuel my passion every day. Running my own business allows me to unleash my creativity. I’ve built a strong community around my brand, fostering meaningful relationships with clients who return not just for services but for the welcoming atmosphere I strive to create. This journey has also been a profound personal growth experience, teaching me invaluable lessons about resilience and leadership. Looking ahead, I’m excited about the future of my business and the role I can play in shaping beauty trends while promoting inclusivity within the industry. Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Throughout my journey in the beauty industry, the skills and knowledge I’ve acquired have been pivotal in shaping my success and confidence as a business owner, mentor, trainer and artist. Having understanding and gratitude has only enabled me to provide exceptional services but also empowered me to educate my clients, fostering trust and loyalty. My interactions with my clients and students has humbled my ability to adapt to diverse needs, ensuring each person feels valued and understood.

For those just starting their journey in the beauty industry, I encourage you to invest in your education and skill development. Take courses, attend workshops, and stay updated on industry trends to build a strong foundation. Networking with experienced professionals can provide invaluable insights and mentorship. Remember, practice makes perfect—don’t shy away from hands-on experience, whether through internships or volunteer work. Most importantly, cultivate a genuine passion for what you do; this enthusiasm will shine through in your work and resonate with clients. Who has been most helpful in helping you overcome challenges or build and develop the essential skills, qualities or knowledge you needed to be successful?

Having faith and a strong relationship with God has been a guiding light throughout my journey in the beauty industry, helping me navigate challenges and find the strength to persevere. Whenever I faced obstacles—be it financial struggles, tough competition, or moments of self-doubt—I turned to my faith for comfort and clarity. This connection has instilled in me a sense of purpose and resilience, reminding me that setbacks are often stepping stones to growth. Through prayer and reflection, I’ve gained the wisdom to approach problems with a positive mindset and to view each challenge as an opportunity to learn and improve. My faith has not only provided me with the courage to take calculated risks but has also fostered a sense of gratitude for the journey itself. As I continue to grow my business, I remain grounded in my beliefs, trusting that with hard work and divine guidance, I can achieve success while uplifting others along the way.
