Meet Britney Flanning

We were lucky to catch up with Britney Flanning recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Britney, so happy you were able to devote some time to sharing your thoughts and wisdom with our community. So, we’ve always admired how you have seemingly never let nay-sayers or haters keep you down. Can you talk to us about how to persist despite the negative energy that so often is thrown at folks trying to do something special with their lives?

Ever since I’ve had my first child I had a lot of family and friends tell me to sit down and take care of my responsibilities! That I would never make it to become anything! In spite of everything that I’ve been thru with being homeless and raped at 16, my love for dance will never change! It was my stress reliever and my get out of the real world problems. I knew I had something special and I wanted to share it with everyone!

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I pursued my career because I found joy in dancing. I love to see the way the dancers moved their body’s to express how they felt! I knew I was good at dancing when I started getting bored of the same old moves our praise dancer instructor was trying to teach us! And it also was a getaway from the struggles that I was going through in my life. Once I started dancing, there would be nothing anyone could do to bring me down from true happiness.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The only lesson that I can share that I’m still working on is to never give up and always go hard. You will have people in your ear telling you, you will never go far with that, or you’ll never be as pretty as girls on the TV, n you’re getting too old you need to find another hobby! Baby, I’m here to tell you nobody will ever ride hard for you then yourself! Nobody will ever know the struggles you took to get you this far!

What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?

My biggest area of growth is me not being afraid to fail in an audition! Everyone comes in there with their clothes that they made or picked out and hair done make up Beat and I just look like a regular old Joe not to say I don’t be cute but they just go over the top and it makes me feel real small compared to other people I’m auditioning with. When I see them it makes me not go 100% of my ability of my dance and it causes me to not do great at the audition. I’ve learned overtime that how you look doesn’t matter to the judges majority of the time is how you catch onto the choreography and make it your own and dance like nobody’s watching.
