Meet Andrew Gomez

We recently connected with Andrew Gomez and have shared our conversation below.

Andrew, thank you so much for taking the time to share your lessons learned with us and we’re sure your wisdom will help many. So, one question that comes up often and that we’re hoping you can shed some light on is keeping creativity alive over long stretches – how do you keep your creativity alive?

I feel the craft that im in, its easy to stay creative. Although theres 2 sides to this business. You can either do the same stuff over and over or you can continue to make new designs. I get inspiration from alot of different places, sometimes its just going into bag stores and browsing or sometimes just scrolling thru instagram. Staying creative isnt the issue tho, i feel like its a little difficult to control all my ideas.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

Currently we are focused on growing our brand. We work mostly with designer bags, doin repairs and doin upcycled products out of old designer bags. I love making stuff you cant get in the stores. I have 2 years of experience working for LV repair center. Wasnt to happy there and i was limited on what i could do artistically, i left to work for a man named odin at odin leather goods. He has really helped me alot. From learning all types of ways to get money in the industry to learning how to make way more bags and wallets.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I would say patience is the most important. In the beginning i would rush things and would be unhappy with the finished so if your gonna do it, do it right the first time. Shut up and listen is another one, when someone is trying to give you some game. Dont interupt or let your mind wonder, just shut up and listen and take trhe advice. Weather you use it or not. Doing prototypes has really helped me perfect my designs, its really annoying but its really worth it and will save you money in the long run forsure.

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

My boss right now has really helped me over come alot of challenges. The owner of odin leather goods. Taught me how to really think my steps out mentally before i make products, it helps with not skipping a step and it makes the product come out way neater. I think of leather craft like chess
