We were lucky to catch up with Rachel Louisme’ Rogers recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Rachel, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
Discovering my purpose has been a transformative journey. As a child, I dreamed of becoming a pediatrician, driven by a desire to help young people. I pursued a Biology Pre-Med degree, but by the time I graduated, I felt exhausted and unprepared for the rigors of medical school. This led me to ask, “What’s next?”
A pivotal moment came during a conversation with my friend’s mom, an educator. She asked, “Why do you want to be a pediatrician?” I explained my passion for helping young people, and she responded, “Have you ever thought about being a teacher? There are other ways to help young people.” Her words planted a seed that I had never considered.
While I loved studying the human body, I also deeply enjoyed connecting with young people. After researching, I decided to pursue a Master’s in Secondary Education while working for a pediatrician. Reflecting on nearly 30 years as an educator, I know I made the right decision. Doctors play a critical role in society, but teachers teach the world.
From the moment I stood before a classroom, connecting and empowering students with knowledge, a fire ignited within me. Teaching brought an unexplainable satisfaction and allowed me to open new worlds for my students. They gravitated toward me, and I toward them. Every chance I got, I spoke life into them because I knew the transformative power of empowerment—just as it had set me free to fulfill my purpose.
As the youngest of five children born to Haitian immigrants, my parents worked tirelessly to provide us with a better life. My single mother, who learned English after arriving in the U.S., couldn’t fully navigate the American educational system. Despite her high expectations, I did just enough to get by with A’s, B’s, and C’s. It wasn’t until an educator empowered me to apply myself that I began excelling in college.
For years, I believed intelligence was reserved for “certain people.” Little did I know, I too could unlock that potential with effort and determination. That realization—the power of empowerment—changed everything.
In 2017, a year before my mother passed away from Alzheimer’s, my purpose came full circle: I was named District Teacher of the Year. It was a profound moment, knowing my mother’s baby girl had found her purpose.
Today, my life’s mission is to empower and transform education and organizations, helping others unlock their full potential. Empowerment isn’t just what I do—it’s who I am.
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?
1. Self-Awareness
Self-awareness is the catalyst to personal growth and success—it’s the key that unlocks your potential. Truly understanding who you are allows you to better manage your actions, reactions, and emotions. This self-management naturally enhances social awareness, which allows you to navigate relationships and the world around you more effectively.
Many people struggle with self-awareness, especially during conflict, because it can be uncomfortable to confront being wrong or vulnerable. However, conflict and challenges are inevitable, and reflecting on your role in these moments is critical for growth. Seeking support from a therapist or coach can offer insightful perspectives and help you gain clarity about yourself. My advice: make self-awareness a priority. It’s the first step toward emotional intelligence and lasting transformation.
2. Relationship Management
With self-awareness comes the ability to build and manage meaningful relationships. Positive relationships create a path to limitless opportunities in both personal and professional spaces. The ability to foster trust, encourage collaboration, and navigate complex dynamics is a powerful skill that opens doors and creates lasting connections.
To improve in this area, practice active listening, show empathy, and prioritize authentic communication. Take time to invest in relationships by understanding the needs and perspectives of others. My advice: view every interaction as an opportunity to build trust and mutual respect—these relationships will fuel your success.
3. Leadership
Realizing and embracing my leadership potential has been one of the most impactful parts of my journey. Initially, I hesitated to step into leadership roles, fearing failure. Over time, I learned that leadership is less about perfection and more about service and impact.
Servant leadership, in particular, has allowed me to empower others while magnifying the impact of my work. Leadership isn’t just about directing others; it’s about using your influence to create a long-lasting effect of growth and success. My advice: don’t shy away from leadership opportunities. Approach leadership as a way to serve and uplift others, and you’ll create a legacy of positive change.
Final Thoughts
These three qualities—self-awareness, relationship management, and leadership—have been instrumental in shaping my journey. To others looking to grow, I encourage you to prioritize these areas. They will guide you toward a life filled with purpose, meaningful connections, and lasting impact.
