Meet Samantha Nicole Jurina

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Samantha Nicole Jurina. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Samantha Nicole below.

Samantha Nicole, thanks so much for taking the time to share your insights and lessons with us today. We’re particularly interested in hearing about how you became such a resilient person. Where do you get your resilience from?

I definitely got my resilience from my parents. I remember a specific time when I was very young, my parents took me ice skating. My dad was helping me learn and I was getting so frustrated when I kept falling. Everyone else flying past us. He told me “when you fall just get back up and try again”. I’ve kept that with me for my whole life, it’s something I won’t ever forget.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am an Esthetician, there are a lot of components to being an esthetician, makeup is something that I’ve fallen in love with. Growing up I’ve always loved applying makeup to myself, watching YouTube videos 24/7 and getting a job at a very young age just to afford purchasing makeup at higher end places like Sephora and Nordstrom. Until going to Esthetician school I didn’t feel confident enough applying makeup to other people and all during this time a good friend of mine Avery Williams (ALW Photography LLC) was branching out and starting Boudoir, looking for a makeup artist. Still being in school I decided what better way to build my portfolio! We did a test shoot and I loved every second of it. Everything came naturally! No one needs makeup to look beautiful but using makeup to enhance someone’s features and boosting their confidence has been my absolute favorite part of this whole experience. AND a hairstyling certification is in the works so stay tuned for that, everyone loves a one stop shop!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

I think three qualities or skills that were the most impactful in this journey is my top being work ethic. It’s something that has been instilled in my brain since I can remember. Starting work at 16 definitely helped that but also my parents always making sure I was on time and showed up no matter what was the key to my success. Others being always willing to accept constructive criticism and having an open mind to any and all things. Not every one is the same so that means not every client will be the same. They’ll have different styles and views on what they want and like, which is totally fine, finding an artist that is willing to be open to different things is hard to come by sometimes. But I love to try different things especially being new in the industry, heck that’s what brought me to where I’m at now! If I could give any advice to anyone that is new in their esthetician journey, or any journey is don’t give up. It’s going to be more hard than not most of the time, they wouldn’t call it a journey if it were that easy!

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?

The number one obstacle, that I know I’m probably not the only one facing, in this industry is the competition. Although there will always be a demand for makeup there will also be an overflow of artists also trying to make it in this industry. Especially being new to the game, the trust the client is giving me as a new artist means the world to me and word of mouth is crucial. I just experienced that recently actually, Avery and I had a lovely boudoir client that was referred to us by a previous client we worked with. I loved that and it’s only the beginning!
