We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Freyja Inanna. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Freyja below.
Freyja, so good to have you with us today. We’ve always been impressed with folks who have a very clear sense of purpose and so maybe we can jump right in and talk about how you found your purpose?
In a way, I feel I’ve always known my purpose is to facilitate healing at a deep level….it just took a long time to fully realize and integrate (re-member) who i came here to be. Being born into a strict isolated religious culture where women are programmed to fit into a specific role as wives and mothers certainly delayed that process, but I felt the call so powerfully that I began to explore aromatherapy and other healing modalities as well as completing nursing school, herbalist certification and midwifery training while still in the religion, in spite of having a large family. After I finally left the religious community, having had twelve children before doing so, I really dove into the process of deeply healing and dicovering who I am (and releasing who/what I am not), which led to me having the experience and additional training I needed to act as a guide for others on their healing journeys.
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
I am an Integrative Health Advocate, Psychosomatic Therapist, Trauma Release Facilitator and experienced certified herbalist and aromatherapist.
My professional experience includes twenty years as a Registered Nurse, Registered Midwife and more recently, Psychosomatic Therapist and Emotion Code Practitioner as well as being certified in other complementary healing modalities.
I have co-founded and run a healing retreat center, Inanna Sanctuary, with locations in Florida and Costa Rica, have written extensively in blogs and articles, and advocated for mental health, women’s issues and civil rights over the years.
My upbringing and early life, spent within the polygamist community of southern BC, Canada, has sparked a passion for freedom and healing and deep compassion for those still in the intense phases of their own healing process.
I have spent much of my life interacting with patients and clients in environments ranging from childbirth to various modalities and levels of physical, emotional and energetic healing, and connect easily with others to discover what would best serve to assist in their highest empowerment and authentic expression.
I am currently owner and herbalist of Ancestral Roots Apothecary in Cranbrook, BC as well as working as a Registered Nurse in our local hospital maternity unit, and continue to offer other complementary healing modalities. Recently, I have expanded my offerings to include my line of exquisite natural perfumes, including replications of ancient perfume formulations from Egypt, Greece, India and more! I call this line Exquisite Perfumes by Freyja, which can be found, along with my other offerings on my apothecary website https://www.ancestralroots.ca
If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
1 – A willingness to question everything I thing I know and always keep learning…healing, like enlightenment, is a journey, not a destination.
2 – The importance of integrity and authenticity in everything…especially self expression. To discover who I truly am, I had to do the deep and uncomfortable work of releasing all that I am not, especially the parts that I had been taught to believe I SHOULD be that were suppressing the most powerful and important aspects to my authentic expression, and were essential to reconnect with as the healer I came here to be.
3 – A willingnes to take risks and to sit in the discomfort of uncomfortable truths, the courage to truly listen and hear the experience of others.
Alright so to wrap up, who deserves credit for helping you overcome challenges or build some of the essential skills you’ve needed?
My life partner, Mika, has been instrumental in supporting my journey through the deep healing and self discovery I began before we met and then immersed myself in through the following years, then walked with me as I engaged in the learning and practice of the healing arts and guiding others on their journeys. My adult children have also been strong supporters of my work.
