Meet Eleonora Balducchi

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Eleonora Balducchi a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Eleonora, so excited to have you with us today. So much we can chat about, but one of the questions we are most interested in is how you have managed to keep your creativity alive.

I am a very visually driven person, and my inspiration often comes from visual input. For instance, I love visiting museums to discover the work of the masters, but I don’t like to set boundaries when it comes to sources of inspiration. I frequently explore forms of art that are far removed from what I do and I think that travelling in particular, experiencing new places, flavours, smells, cultures and people, is an incredibly prolific way of sparking new ideas.

At home, I spend a lot of time researching through books—everything from art and design books to architectural volumes, illustrated stories or magazines collections. Fashion is another area I explore often, as it combines design, storytelling, and cultural influences in a way that resonates deeply with me. Another curious source of inspiration for me is vinyl record covers—I find them incredibly interesting as an art form.

Walking and observing my surroundings is another important part of my process. Like everyone, I always have my phone with me to capture anything that catches my eye, whether it’s a texture, a shadow, or a moment in nature. In essence, I’m constantly building a mood board of visual references, saving snapshots of reality that might inspire a future project.

When it comes to tattooing in particular, the first step of my creative process is listening to my clients story or learning their vision which becomes the fulcrum of the project. I also draw inspiration by observing the work of other artists I admire. I study their techniques and use their work as both inspiration and a benchmark for improving my own craft.

I feel like, for me at least, keeping alive creativity is a sort of life style, it’s not a limited task on the agenda, it’s a constant attitude.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I began tattooing later in life, leaving behind a career as an architect to pursue my passion for art in a new form. My work focuses on fine line and single needle techniques, with designs ranging from delicate floral compositions to custom pieces that reflect individual creativity. I enjoy working in both color and black and gray, always striving to create tattoos that feel timeless and unique.

What I find most fulfilling about this profession is the blend of creative expression and human connection. Each tattoo is not only an artistic endeavor but also a collaboration that allows me to connect with individuals on a personal level. This combination makes every project deeply rewarding.

Looking ahead, I’m eager to continue exploring new themes and techniques, as well as taking on projects that challenge and inspire me artistically. This work keeps evolving, and I’m thrilled to be part of an art form that feels so dynamic and rich with possibilities.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Reflecting on my journey, I recognize the importance of artistic ability, technical proficiency, and interpersonal skills. My background in architecture provided a strong foundation in design, which has been beneficial in my tattoo work. To develop these skills, I dedicated time to drawing and apprenticed under experienced artists. Building rapport with clients has also been essential in understanding their visions and ensuring a comfortable experience. Still feeling amongst those beginning their journey in this industry, I remind myself of the importance of continuous learning, connecting with other artists, and maintaining patience and persistence, as mastery takes time.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I feel overwhelmed, I find grounding in spending time with my son, Leo, whose presence helps me reassess situations from a fresh perspective. Reading also serves as a calming escape, allowing me to immerse myself in a different world. Additionally, the tattooing process itself offers a meditative experience, fully absorbing my attention and providing a sense of calm and grounding.
