Meet Christiane King

We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Christiane King a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Christiane, thank you so much for joining us today. Let’s jump right into something we’re really interested in hearing about from you – being the only one in the room. So many of us find ourselves as the only woman in the room, the only immigrant or the only artist in the room, etc. Can you talk to us about how you have learned to be effective and successful in situations where you are the only one in the room like you?

Coming from Côte d’Ivoire via Paris and now thriving in Los Angeles, I’ve always embraced being in spaces where I’m different. As an immigrant, I’m used to being among people who don’t look like me, and that perspective has been a powerful asset throughout my life and career. Being the only one gives me a chance to stand out, to be noticed, and to bring a unique point of view.

The key is staying prepared, focused, and ready to deliver. I see these moments as platforms to shine, not barriers to overcome and never shy away from that. I embrace it as an opportunity to inspire. At the end of the day, it provides me the chance to pave the way for others, to uplift them, and to lead by example.

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?

As I mentioned, my journey began in Côte d’Ivoire and has taken me through Paris and now Los Angeles. Each step has shaped my perspective as a designer and artist, infusing my work with a blend of cultures and experiences. I specialize in creating high-end women’s white button-down shirts that reflect elegance, versatility, and individuality. These shirts are more than just wardrobe staples—they’re a symbol of empowerment for women who want to transition seamlessly and effortlessly throughout their day.

In addition to my brand, I’m also a fashion illustrator. My love for nature extends to this side of my work as well. Flowers are my biggest inspiration because, just like flowers, I believe women possess a delicate grace and an undeniable inner strength. My art celebrates this beauty and vibrancy through bold, colorful designs that merge fashion and art to inspire and empower.

Ultimately, my work—whether in fashion or illustration—is about celebrating individuality and helping people feel their best. I’m excited to share these creations with the world and to continue empowering women to shine in their own unique way.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

Adaptability: My life has taken me on 3 different continents and each new chapter required me to adjust to different cultures, industries, and challenges. Being open to learning and evolving has been crucial. For those early in their journey, my advice is to embrace change and view it as an opportunity to grow. Seek out new experiences and stay curious—you never know where they might lead you.

Perseverance: Success doesn’t happen overnight, and there have been countless moments where I had to keep going despite setbacks or doubts. Staying focused on my vision and pushing through challenges has made all the difference. For those starting out, my advice is simple: believe in your vision, stay consistent, and don’t be afraid to fail. Every obstacle is an opportunity to learn and improve.

Punctuality and Reliability: One of the most underrated qualities is simply doing what you say you’ll do, when you say you’ll do it. Being on time, prepared, and dependable has been essential in building trust and credibility. It’s how you become the first person people think of when new opportunities arise. My advice for others is to value your commitments—showing up on time and delivering on your promises goes a long way in creating lasting relationships and opening doors.

Tell us what your ideal client would be like?

My ideal client is someone who’s adventurous, and willing to express themselves through fashion. I love working with women who are ready to embrace the idea that ‘life is too short to wear boring clothes’—a philosophy I live by and love sharing with others.

I also enjoy helping women who feel unsure about their style. So often, I hear women say, ‘This wouldn’t look good on me,’ or ‘I could never pull this off.’ But in reality, it’s all about understanding their body types, choosing the right silhouettes, and creating balance. Style isn’t about following rules—it’s about learning how to make clothes work for you.

Teaching women to feel confident in their wardrobe and showing them how to highlight their best features is one of the most rewarding parts of what I do. Fashion should be fun and empowering, and I love helping my clients discover that for themselves.
