Meet Janisa Garry

We recently connected with Janisa Garry and have shared our conversation below.

Janisa, we’re thrilled to have you on our platform and we think there is so much folks can learn from you and your story. Something that matters deeply to us is living a life and leading a career filled with purpose and so let’s start by chatting about how you found your purpose.

I had to be about 10 years old and I picked up the first issue of teen vogue and everything I ever thought I wanted to be before that moment changed. Flipping through those glossy pages and watching ANTM made me realize I wanted a life in the fashion world, to be a model. I will admit it was lost within for a long time but by the time 2021 started I knew it was now or never to live in my purpose and shine.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?

I was born & raised in New Jersey. I was always that child being told to go after what I love and how I was destined for great things, I didn’t believe it for a large portion of my life. I’ve worked in countless retail jobs and even switched industries but I wasn’t happy so I decided to change all of that. I’m currently a model, creative director, stylist and lead production assistant. Being able to express myself so freely in front of the camera or the runway is such an indescribable feeling, the ability to create what resides in the inner corners of my mind and bring it to life is beyond exhilarating and seeing others enjoy and resonate with it just heals the inner child in me. I’m apart of an incredible platform called NYC photoshoot out that highlight new or already established talents and soon we have a show for NYFW and countless projects to suit anyone’s preference in what they want to add to their experience/ portfolio. I’m apart of the new recruit of creative directors and I’ll be creating my own shoots and being my journey as a model coach as well, I’m so thrilled for this opportunity!

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?

The top 3 qualities that were most impactful to my journey was discipline, patience, and ambition. My best advice for anyone embarking on a similar journey is always remember to cut out the noise and remain focused, don’t lose the plot. Learn that anything meant for you will never pass you, it’s alright to wait for what feels true to you. Your ambition is your superpower, pour into it but don’t just talk about it, BE ABOUT IT!

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

The most impactful thing my parents did was encourage and aid in my dreams. My parents gave me a glimpse into the world I wanted to be in whether it was attending scouting events or advising me in how to better myself but allowing me to still learn from my own mistakes. Support from them is what keeps me going.
