Meet Melissa Northrup

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melissa Northrup. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Melissa, so great to have you with us and thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts with the community. So, let’s jump into something that stops so many people from going after their dreams – haters, nay-sayers, etc. We’d love to hear about how you dealt with that and persisted on your path.

When you pursue your passion, you will inevitably encounter people and situations that may try to hinder your journey and success. Although these challenges can be frustrating, remember that you can grow from these experiences. I find that they push me to think outside the box and boost my confidence. When I face haters or naysayers, I use their negativity as fuel to improve myself, strive for better outcomes, and keep pushing forward, no matter the circumstances.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

I am a freelance photographer for my local newspaper, covering high school sports and other exciting events. This opportunity has allowed me to grow as a photographer and connect with my local community. I truly love action photography, whether it’s capturing a touchdown by the local high school team, a motocross event, or photographing music legends. Each of these experiences has provided me with the chance to learn and enhance my photography skills. I plan to focus on expanding my live music photography portfolio, photographing live events is always exhilarating; you never know what will happen next.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

The qualities that helped me the most when I started my photography career were my strong work ethic, my openness to learning, and my determination to push forward during challenging times. My biggest piece of advice for anyone pursuing their passion is to always be willing to learn. You can gain so much from your peers, as well as from your failures and accomplishments. Never underestimate the value of an opportunity, whether it’s a paid gig or not; you never know where it might lead you. During times of doubt, always remember your worth. Your hard work does not go unnoticed, and you will achieve success.

How can folks who want to work with you connect?

I want to collaborate with individuals in the music industry and music publications to share my passion and showcase musicians’ creativity, presence, and impact on their fans. Individuals looking to collaborate and reach out to me on facebook/ Melissa Northrup photography.
