Meet Sham Blak

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Sham Blak. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Sham below.

Hi Sham, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?

I got my work ethic from my dad. When I was a child I got in trouble a lot for half a$$ doing things. My dad would say things like good thing it’s not yours or you’d lose it. When I joined the military I’d hear a lot of my Non-Commissioned Officers say the same thing and the truth was they were correct. I didn’t try hard and when I did I not only succeeded but I exceeded with flying colors. It took a lot of growing up and many hard meals to digest, but in the end it gave me a work ethic out of this world

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

My name is Sham Blak and I am an artist. Currently I am working on a project titled ‘ShamRock 2’ which is produced by a great friend of mine Rob Rockly. This project is maybe about 5 years in the making being that part 1 was released November 1st 2020. This tape was my original entry to the San Diego music scene. I’d recently started networking but didn’t have a full body of work to display. As I learned a few of the ins and outs of creating music and how to market it and sell it, I created a 3 recorded EP and released it gathering close to 3,000 streams. ‘Shamrock 2’ is a letter to the change of status quo. From the specific features to the way the songs are arranged. I’m very proud of this project and can’t wait to share it with the world. Tho the music is tailored to a keen audience, I believe the message throughout is very universal.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three things I believe that have been most impactful are, to always believe in myself, understand that rejection is redirection and to be flexible because things change. These point of views and frames of mind have been most impactful because they’ve allowed me to remain myself without trying to fit in. Tho we tend to adjust as we go, keeping my end goal in mind has also allowed me to keep my target in mind.

The advice to anyone early in their journey is to make some mistakes, take some chances and don’t take it personal! Forgive but don’t forget either!

Awesome, really appreciate you opening up with us today and before we close maybe you can share a book recommendation with us. Has there been a book that’s been impactful in your growth and development?

The 48 Laws of power has been a key in my ability to navigate rough seas. I sent 10 years in the military with 4 back to back to back to back combat tours, this book has been my go to every time. I know some people give this book a bad wrap because it can be used to manipulate people and situations, it also serves as a reminder that just because you aren’t aware doesn’t mean it’s not true. The book breaks down all point with pros and cons and really discusses ideas that people support unknowingly. I love history, I love war documentaries, so this book really draws me in, on top of the very relevant mind games people play whether they are aware of it or not.
