Meet Adrian Adams

We were lucky to catch up with Adrian Adams recently and have shared our conversation below.

Adrian , so great to be with you and I think a lot of folks are going to benefit from hearing your story and lessons and wisdom. Imposter Syndrome is something that we know how words to describe, but it’s something that has held people back forever and so we’re really interested to hear about your story and how you overcame imposter syndrome.

From an early age, I was somewhat aware of the contributions I was destined to make would be unique, distinct, and irreplaceable. This stemmed from my individual perspective and experiences. I believe that this realization occupied self-doubt, as I often questioned my capabilities and felt as though I was an imposter in spaces that I had the right to occupy. Through self-reflection and persistence, I began to cultivate a major sense of confidence in the knowledge, skills and resources that was bestowed upon me. Music played a significant role in this journey and truly is the force that fuels my ambition and passion for success. I truly believe that imposter syndrome is predominately subjective, stemming from internal feelings rather than objective truths. We have to recognize that our capabilities should be measured by facts that reflect our achievements and potential. I have embraced this reality and it has allowed me to counteract the self-doubt that often accompanies imposter syndrome. Build a community of people who support you and know that your life is meaningful and valuable. Why? Because it happened. Your purpose is your purpose. Own it and be confident in your competence!

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

I currently serve as Director of Bands at Community Christian School in Stockbridge, Georgia. With over 15 years of experience in music education, I am honored to be in a position where I can provide students from grades 3 through 12 with a rigorous musical experience that integrates Christian values. I have never been in an educational setting where I could teach students through my experience as a Christian. One of the most rewarding aspects of my role is witnessing the growth of each student from grade to grade. It’s incredibly fulfilling to see young musicians flourish throughout their educational journey, both in skill and character. The opportunity to blend my passion for music and my faith has allowed me to connect with my students on a deeper level; by fostering community and spiritual growth within our band program.

Beyond my responsibilities at Community Christian School, I am deeply committed to supporting fellow educators. I devote time to creating blogs and videos that outline a variety of differentiated teaching strategies tailored for band directors. These resources are designed to empower educators to connect with every student. My hopes is that this will promote all learners in benefitting from a holistic and personalized music education.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?

I believe that three qualities have been particularly instrumental in shaping my path: pride, poise and dedication. Each of these characteristics has played a crucial role in not only my personal growth but also in the way that I approach my career and interact with others in this field.

Pride in my work has instilled a sense of purpose and commitment. It inspires me to put forth my best effort in ensuring that every task is approached with integrity and intention. To those embarking upon their own journeys, cultivate a deep sense of pride in what you do!

Poise, in my opinion, relates to the confidence a person presents to the world. This assisted me in establishing credibility and authority in the music field. As a means of offering advice, start public speaking and networking with like minded individuals. How you carry yourself can leave a lasting impression!

Dedication has been the cornerstone of my journey. It requires persistence and commitment to your goals, even in the face of adversity. Emerging professionals, develop routines that emphasize creativity, consistency and resilience. Continue to remind yourself of the passion that initially inspired your journey!

Okay, so before we go, is there anyone you’d like to shoutout for the role they’ve played in helping you develop the essential skills or overcome challenges along the way?

In my current role, I continuously receive invaluable mentorship from Dr. Matt Isenberg, who currently serves in the role of Headmaster for Community Christian School. His guidance has been instrumental in helping me navigate various challenges and in honing the essential skills necessary for my development as a future leader. Dr. Isenberg epitomizes what it means to be a transformational leader. His ability to inspire and motivate others transcends conventional mentorship. He genuinely invests in the growth of those he guides. Throughout our interactions, he has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to fairness and honesty. He truly fosters an environment of trust and respect. His emphasis on collaborative dialogue has been particularly beneficial and it encourages a diverse exchange of ideas and perspectives. Our school is blessed to have such and amazing leader and he will go down in history as another influential figure who continues to forge me ahead.
