Meet Kook Band

We recently connected with Kook Band and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Kook, so excited to have you with us today, particularly to get your insight on a topic that comes up constantly in the community – overcoming creativity blocks. Any thoughts you can share with us?

The way I tend to overcome creativity blocks are by taking some time and looking at things from a different perspective. I stop making music for a little while and think about things and rest. Then when I come back to it I take a different approach like writing bass first or vocals first.

Thanks for sharing that. So, before we get any further into our conversation, can you tell our readers a bit about yourself and what you’re working on?

we are a punk/grunge band from San Diego CA, I find the most exciting part about being in a band is playing shows with friends. It doesn’t matter to much to me at least when people don’t come to our shows, I more enjoy the fact of playing raw live music. We have an album coming out January 31st! And we plan on going on tour this summer.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

I think the three best qualities to obtain are 1: the quality of perseverance. 2: the set in stone goals of the moving foward of your journey. 3: passion. The advice I give to those who are early in their journey is to keep going and don’t let setbacks take you down. I think the best way to improve on this is to meditate, it has helped me a lot to create a stable headspace where when something is bringing me down I don’t let it keep me down.

Any advice for folks feeling overwhelmed?

This is a challenge I have been through a lot recently and it seems the best way to handle it is to work through each problem and keep a calm and stable mindset about the problems. If I freak out about each problem I spiral and become frantic which doesn’t help but when I keep calm everything is stressful but works out smoothly.
