We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Gabriel Beeler a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Gabriel, thanks for sharing your insights with our community today. Part of your success, no doubt, is due to your work ethic and so we’d love if you could open up about where you got your work ethic from?
My Uncle Ed played a pivotal role in shaping my path as a photographer and photo boother. Growing up, I watched my Uncle Ed achieve tremendous success as a sports photographer, capturing the World Cup and other large sporting events with his Lens. His commitment to excellence left a lasting impression on me growing up, demonstrating that success comes from consistency and effort, not taking shortcuts.
My personal aspirations have also fueled my work ethic. When it comes to my work, I focus on improving a little bit at a time. Slow and steady improvement over a long period of time has yielded positive results. I have also realized that it is important to work smarter and not harder. Doing too many small jobs and working too many hours can eventually lead to burnout and cut productivity. Having work that you enjoy doing is great but also has to be balanced with family time and taking vacations and breaks.
Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
Lucky Frog Photo Booth is a photo and video booth company that creates unique experiences for upscale events around Orange County. Lucky Frog Photo Booth has become a trusted choice for high-end parties, corporate events, conferences and more.
What sets Lucky Frog Photo Booth apart is its dedication to quality and constant innovation.
Every event is different, so at Lucky Frog, we try our best to find out our customer’s needs and go from there. Lucky Frog offers a variety of event entertainment options, including traditional open-air setups with prints, 360° video booths, and recently AI photo technology, allowing clients to tailor the photo booth experience to their unique event theme. Each booth has unique features. For example, we have lots of different roaming photo booth options, that are very popular at corporate and business events. Here at Lucky Frog, we approach each event as a project, with hours of testing and experimenting going into each event, to make sure the results are perfect.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
A blend of creativity, technical know-how, and business acumen is crucial to thrive in the photo booth industry.
Technical Skills
Photography Knowledge: Understanding lighting, camera settings, and composition ensures high-quality images.
Equipment Mastery: Familiarity with photo booth hardware (cameras, printers, lighting, and touch screens) and software (photo editing, template creation, and operating systems).
Troubleshooting: The ability to quickly resolve technical issues on-site, such as printer jams or software glitches.
Problem-Solving: Handling unexpected challenges, such as last-minute client requests or equipment issues.
Business Skills
Customer Service: Providing friendly, and professional service is essential in the events business and will keep customers coming back. .
Marketing and Branding: Skills in social media, SEO, and advertising are vital for promoting your services. Creative branding can set your company apart.
Sales and Networking: Building relationships with event planners, venues, and clients helps secure bookings.
Creative Skills
Graphic Design: Designing custom graphics, overlays, and backdrops tailored to client events.
Event knowledge: Understanding how to integrate the photo booth into the flow of different events, ensuring it enhances the overall experience.
Adobe Creative Suite: Learning Photo editing, Graphic design and Video aimiation are all essential creative tools to learn.
My advice for people who are new to the photo booth, photography and events industry is to not take shortcuts and learn the right way. For example, learning Photoshop takes years to learn, so consider taking a class or follow tutorials until you master it. When starting out, focus on building your business skills along with technical skills.
As we end our chat, is there a book you can leave people with that’s been meaningful to you and your development?
The book Atomic Habits is one of the most famous self help books out there, and I have found it very useful in achieving goals. The concept I like most from this book that is followed by most is the concept of getting 1% better every day. Being consistent in your efforts and doing a little bit of something each day adds up to big results over time. Following this strategy, I have a habit of doing marketing for one hour each day at a minimum, when I wake up in the morning. I find that doing one hour of marketing a day for 7 days is much more effective for me than doing 7 hours straight. It is extermely hard for me to focus on a boring task for 7 hours straight, so doing a little bit each day is a much better strategy for me.
