We recently connected with Christine Lim and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Christine, we’re so appreciative of you taking the time to share your nuggets of wisdom with our community. One of the topics we think is most important for folks looking to level up their lives is building up their self-confidence and self-esteem. Can you share how you developed your confidence?
Honestly, developing confidence and self-esteem has been a process, and I think it’s something I’m always working on. Starting Salted Cow was deeply personal because it reflects the food and flavors that I grew up with and love. I found confidence by leaning into what felt authentic to me—celebrating the buttery richness of baked mochi and the bold, unique flavors of Southeast Asian inspired snack mixes.
A big turning point was just getting started—testing recipes, hosting pop-ups, and seeing people’s reactions. Everytime a customer told me how much they loved the food or how it reminded them of their own memories, it validated that I was on the right path. I also credit my support system—my husband, family, and friends—who have been my cheerleaders through every step.
Of course, there’s fear and doubt, especially when you’re building something from scratch. But I’ve learned to take things one step at a time, trust my instincts, and remind myself that I’m creating something meaningful. That’s where my self-esteem comes from—believing in my vision and the value it brings to others
Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
Salted Cow Bake is my labor of love, a business born from my passion for sharing nostalgic and bold flavors. We specialize in buttery, chewy baked butter mochi and snack mixes that celebrate the vibrant tastes of Southeast Asia. Our baked butter mochi is a crowd favorite—it’s rich, slightly crispy on the outside, and gooey in the middle. And our snack mixes come in unique flavors like furikake, sinigang, spicy sinigang, and isaan laab, bringing a fun, savory twist to traditional snacks.
What excites me the most about what we do is the connection we create with people. Food is so personal, and it’s incredible to see how our treats spark joy or bring back memories for our customers. I’ve had people share stories about their travels or childhoods because one bite reminded them of home, and that’s really special to me.
This year, we’re launching an online platform to make it easier for customers across the States to enjoy our products. We’re also exploring partnerships with local retailers and restaurants to stock our baked butter mochi and snack mixes. Whether you’re trying us for the first time or are already a fan, we’d love for you to follow along on this journey and stay tuned for exciting collaborations and pop-ups.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I think the three qualities that have been most impactful in my journey are perseverance, adaptability, and a deep connection to my ‘why.’
First is perseverance. Starting and running a business isn’t easy, and there are always challenges—from perfecting recipes to navigating logistics and marketing. There were moments of doubt, but I reminded myself to keep going, one step at a time. For anyone starting, my advice is to embrace the process. Success doesn’t happen overnight, but small, consistent efforts add up.
Second, adaptability. Entrepreneurship is all about learning to pivot and problem-solve. For example, I started with pop-ups but realized the need for an online platform to reach more customers. Being open to change and willing to adjust your plans is key. To build this skill, focus on staying curious, gathering feedback, and being willing to experiment.
Finally, a deep connection to my ‘why.’ Knowing that Salted Cow Bake represents flavors and food I love keeps me grounded and inspired. It reminds me that this is about more than just business—it’s about sharing joy and creating connections. For anyone starting their journey, take the time to reflect on what drives you. Let that be your guiding light, especially during tough times.
Above all, stay patient with yourself and don’t be afraid to ask for help or learn as you go. Every step you take gets you closer to your goals.
How can folks who want to work with you connect?
Absolutely! I’m always open to partnering and collaborating with folks who share a passion for food and community. At Salted Cow Bake, we’re currently looking to work with local retailers, restaurants, and cafes who are interested in stocking our baked butter mochi and snack mixes. We believe our products can add something special to their offerings, and we love collaborating with businesses that value unique treats.
We’re also open to working with event organizers, food bloggers, and content creators who want to showcase bold, nostalgic flavors. Collaboration is such a fun way to reach new audiences and bring fresh ideas to life.
If you’re interested in partnering or collaborating, we’d love to hear from you! You can connect with us through our website (once it’s live) or reach out directly via email or social media. Let’s chat and see how we can create something amazing together.
