We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Matthew Smith a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, really happy you were able to join us today and we’re looking forward to sharing your story and insights with our readers. Let’s start with the heart of it all – purpose. How did you find your purpose?
I discovered my purpose from my experiences growing up in poverty and witnessing my mother’s struggles to make ends meet and provide for our family. From a young age, I resolved to achieve success and financial security to support and ultimately retire my family and ensure they can enjoy a comfortable life.
Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a health and life insurance broker dedicated to helping families secure better insurance options. In the health insurance realm, I assist families in finding alternatives to the Affordable Care Act, which often proves to be anything but affordable. By doing so, I help them save thousands of dollars each year and obtain coverage that truly benefits them.
When it comes to life insurance, I frequently speak with individuals who have spent significant amounts on term life insurance policies, only to be left with nothing when the policy expires. I specialize in Indexed Universal Life (IUL) products, which not only never expire but also grow in value over time. These products also provide an investment vehicle, as the compounded growth positions individuals to pay themselves a consistent income when they retire.
At MedaHealth, we are actively expanding and offering driven individuals the chance to transform their lives while making a meaningful impact on others. This exciting phase of growth allows us to reach more people and provide essential support to those in need.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
Looking back, I attribute my success to three key qualities: discipline, resilience, and obsession. These qualities are interconnected and essential for achieving the highest level of success in any field. To be the most successful person in your field, you must be absolutely obsessed with the idea of becoming the best. It’s not just about being driven; it’s about waking up every day and doing what nobody else is willing to do. Many people fall short of success because they aren’t willing to make the necessary sacrifices.
For those early in their journey, my advice is to cultivate these qualities relentlessly. Discipline is crucial—set clear goals and adhere to a structured plan to achieve them. Resilience will help you overcome obstacles and setbacks; view challenges as opportunities to grow stronger. Finally, let your obsession drive you. By developing and honing these qualities, you’ll set yourself apart and position yourself for success.
Alright, so before we go we want to ask you to take a moment to reflect and share what you think you would do if you somehow knew you only had a decade of life left?
My current challenge is learning how to scale up. I’ve reached a point where I can no longer work harder or invest more money to grow my business. Scaling up is essential for breaking through to the next tier of success. Establishing a team of like-minded individuals is crucial, and I am currently focused on figuring out how to build and manage such a team effectively.
