Meet Kangan Sacheti

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kangan Sacheti . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Kangan, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
I get my resilience from the strong willed and minded women in my family and their husbands who always stood by them, come what may, and helped each other achieve all that they want or wanted in their lives. My grandmother was one of the strongest people in my life, I never saw her give up on anything easily, never saw her tired or burnout of emotions or the weight that was having a career and raising a family, which as we all know is the most demanding kind of lifestyle. She was truly a fearless woman, and my reason and inspiration to crochet.
The other woman in my life who inspires me everyday is my mother, the woman who studied for competitive financial exams and many more during her forties and developed her career through all of her own efforts and dedication. Exactly how many people can say that “I saw my parent(s) passionately following their dreams and desires, for their career, in front of my eyes. She went from being a housewife to a full-time finance bro, while handling a child and a house.

It is because of the people on my family, my grandparents and parents, who showered me with unconditional love and care, taught me good manners and blessed me with all things good, that I am who I am, where I am and where I will go.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?
I am Kangan Sacheti, founder of Kanganverse, a crochet brand. On 1st December 2022, I picked up a crochet hook, bought some yarn and just went with it. I wanted to learn a new hobby as I wasn’t employed at that moment, and I like to utilise my time by learning new things and developing more skills.
But that isn’t the main reason why I started to crochet. I chose to crochet because my grandmother used to crochet a lot and she made so many wonderful things for everyone around her up until she got arthritis and couldn’t anymore but no one ever made anything for her, so, I decided that I want to make something for her. ergo, I started to crochet a scarf for her. it was the first ever thing i had crocheted and it was for her. after that I made some things for my mother, my home, my friends and more people. After sometime when I felt that I do really like to do it but I cannot keep everything for myself and my friends urged me to try and sell my creations, I decided to launch a brand and talk about my crochet pieces. This not only gave my hobby and nice regal routine but as I have MBA in Luxury Brand Management, I get to put my degree to some good use and learn so much about the practical world.
As I mentioned, I like to take up a lot of hobbies, crochet being one of the main ones, what I truly love about it is that when I am making something, my brain is completely quiet, at most peaceful stage. Even during sleep I do not experience such a peace.
All my hobbies, crochet included, have one thing in common, they are all tedious, time consuming, physical labour friendly activities. I believe that in the growing world today it is really important to have certain hobbies and activities, which teaches patience, that it is okay to start from scratch 5000 times and even more, it is completely acceptable to make mistakes and learn from it, learn to stop and breathe and focus on each breath, that it takes real hard work to truly create something worth while and that which will stand the test of time, and lastly give our brain, eyes and all the sense a break from all of the stimuluses and thoughts so that the insight part fo brand can function and we can be more human for that little while than what we felt the whole day.
What I would love for people to know about my brand is that, it has been created by a passionate person who is an over thinker. The result of such a combination are products which have gone through 100s of R&D stages, whether its from choosing the best suitable yarn for a particular product, to selecting each colour carefully, to washing and drying tests, to ensuring the right size by making endless combinations and so much more.
I create the products which I would use on the regular, and I do not accept mediocrity in any shape or form, hence I will never even deem to create it, let alone sell it.
All of the things at Kanganverse are customisable and are carefully crafted for each client. We love custom orders and creating one of a kind products for our clientele.

There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
1. Patience – endless patience is a virtue that is and needs to be developed over time. 2. Listen to all the criticism, advice, recommendations and opinions, but the voice inside you needs to be the loudest. Let it hear all but make a decision that isn’t biased by your views of the person imparting their wisdom towards you.
3. Rejections are not personal. Keep your feelings aside from your business, even though business is the most personal thing in this world, if anyone says no to buying your product(s), even though they are your bestest best friend, do not take it personally. As longs you have faith in yourself and your capabilities, all is good.

All the wisdom you’ve shared today is sincerely appreciated. Before we go, can you tell us about the main challenge you are currently facing?
the hardest part to make people understand why my products seem pricy, it is just like how in the latest interview with Hermes where he said ” it isn’t expensive, it is costly.” It takes time to make a handmade product to perfection that it can be sent out to the world. How do I make unknown people understand the fact that each scrunchie that I make, let stake the small one for example, has minimum 494 stitches. Just one small size Scrunchie.
It takes a lot of hard work to do so, plus the materials I use are the best ones. for example, our scrunchies have 2 yarns, one being mohair. the mohair yarn I use has 80% silk, which is why it a pricier yarn and a much better quality that we offer.
I do not want to use 10% silk and say that I have silk in my scrunchies which is why they do not tangle or pull your hair but are light on your head and hold your hair with ease.
We strive to give quality, the best possible and handmade products done to perfection, hence the costlier price.
I hope that with time people will understand that.

I am trying to resolve this by doing my best to mention all the good qualities and facts about my products and the materials used, on social media, to create awareness.
