Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Rebecca Jordan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Rebecca, we’re thrilled to have you sharing your thoughts and lessons with our community. So, for folks who are at a stage in their life or career where they are trying to be more resilient, can you share where you get your resilience from?
If you look up the word resilience in the dictionary I should be pictured next to it, because I am truly the epitome of resilience. My resilience comes from me being very ill with blood clots in my legs at the age of eleven. I was in the hospital for a total of three months. Out of those three months, I spent a total of two months in a coma in the ICU. The doctors thought I wouldn’t make it ,and they told my mom that a miracle would have to happen for me to pull through. I had to have surgery on my foot and learn how to walk again. Physical therapy was tough and painful, but I know that God saved me for a greater purpose. So, I had to push through the pain and get stronger again. My faith in God taught me that there is always a greater good and nothing will be bad forever no matter how it may seem on the surface. Fast forward, years later, and I am proud to say that even though I still have problems, and feel pain in my legs sometimes, I have been walking, and I’m still here to tell my story. I beat the odds, and I did it with resilience. Nothing can stop me from being successful but myself. Whatever I go through, I grow through!
Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?
My focus right now is ensuring that I am providing my customers/clients (Mane Besties) with the highest quality of extensions, products, and services. Right now, I am in the middle of adding raw extensions to my company. In the hair world, raw extensions is the best hair that can purchased ,because it is not processed or chemically altered. Raw extensions can last a lifetime with the proper maintenance. Raw extensions require little to no maintenance while installed. Yes, raw extensions are more expensive, however, the quality is better. I always tell myself quality over quantity and my Mane Besties deserve luxury in every way. I’m ecstatic about taking my brand to the next level. I am also focusing on bringing hot tools to my collection. These irons have ceramic plates, and they will smooth your hair with only one pass without causing heat damage. The irons also come in three sizes, so, no matter where you are in your hair journey, have an iron for you.
There is so much advice out there about all the different skills and qualities folks need to develop in order to succeed in today’s highly competitive environment and often it can feel overwhelming. So, if we had to break it down to just the three that matter most, which three skills or qualities would you focus on?
The three areas of knowledge that were the most impactful on my journey were remaining close with God, knowing that my hard work will pay off, and having to learn that everyone will not support you. The first area of knowledge that has been impactful on my journey is staying close with God. Staying close and connected to God keeps me grounded and focused on what really matters. The second area of knowledge is that you can’t work hard for a short amount of time and believe your business will reach great heights. You must be consistent and put in the time and effort into your craft. Faith without works is dead. The third area of knowledge that was learning early in my business that not all family and friends will support you. Knowing that you may not get the support you want from the people closet to you must never detour you from your goals. Strangers will support you and some may become like family to you.
What has been your biggest area of growth or improvement in the past 12 months?
My biggest area of improvement has been my marketing strategies. I am very serious about communication with my Mane Besties, so, I send them SMS texts and emails if they have signed up for them. When I send out my text and email blast, I always let them know about the latest products, they receive discounts codes, or we simply chat. I have found that using these marketing strategies have helped me with sales and I developed a bond with them.
