Meet Courtney “Coco” Walls

We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Courtney “Coco” Walls. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Courtney “Coco” below.

Courtney “Coco”, first a big thank you for taking the time to share your thoughts and insights with us today. I’m sure many of our readers will benefit from your wisdom, and one of the areas where we think your insight might be most helpful is related to imposter syndrome. Imposter syndrome is holding so many people back from reaching their true and highest potential and so we’d love to hear about your journey and how you overcame imposter syndrome.
I think surrounding myself with people who believed in me and spoke well of my work was and is the best thing I have done to get over the fear of imposter syndrome, even if it’s not completely gone. Having a community that believes and supports me, even when I’m feeling down, is the biggest motivator to believe that maybe I do belong in the spaces that I’m in and the spaces I want to be in. Having others believe in you, even when you’re struggling to believe in yourself, can help reinforce the positive rather than the negative, and keep you motivated. Once I started replacing the negative voices with the positive ones, that helped me believe in myself too and keep pushing forward with all the goals and dreams that I have

Thanks, so before we move on maybe you can share a bit more about yourself?
In the past, I have worked as a Production Assistant and Assistant Director, which is a role that helps coordinate the logistics of what a shoot needs to run smoothly. It was definitely exciting to work on a variety of projects, from major productions to smaller indie films and fall in love in with the process of creating cinematic art. Currently, I am a Showrunner’s Assistant, where I assist on a television show, and have the opportunity to learn about the entire filmmaking process from top to bottom. It’s super exciting because I have the aspiration to run my own shows at some point and am in the perfect position to observe and learn how it’s done. It’s actually been a major blessing to see how a show is run, and I’ve been able to put what I’m learning into practice! My team and I are working on Season 2 of my web series, I Only Drive at Night, and we made our own mini writer’s room where we were able to put into practice what I’m learning as an assistant, which is super fun and cool to put into action in real time. As I continue in my role, I hope to learn more that I can apply to my own goals of writing, producing and helping create films and shows that resonate with audiences.

One of our goals is to help like-minded folks with similar goals connect and so before we go we want to ask if you are looking to partner or collab with others – and if so, what would make the ideal collaborator or partner?
I love collaborating with other filmmakers who are looking to create films that leave a positive impact! I feel very strongly about creating films and shows that are thoughtful and offer unique points of views. One of my goals is to help others produce their films, and to find like minded creatives who want to help each other create and be great, because you’re only as strong as the community you cultivate around you. If anyone wants to connect and see how we can work together, I am reachable at courtneyorcoco@gmail.com and excited to see what they want to put out into the world!
