Meet Kristina Girod

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kristina Girod. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Kristina, thank you so much for opening up with us about some important, but sometimes personal topics. One that really matters to us is overcoming Imposter Syndrome because we’ve seen how so many people are held back in life because of this and so we’d really appreciate hearing about how you overcame Imposter Syndrome.
By dropping my ego, recognizing the good others are doing and getting to work. My mindset is that if I see that it’s possible elsewhere, I know I have the ability to do it myself. And I have found that if you stay in the work long enough, you’ll usually find that success comes when opportunity meets preparation. So, I stay ready.

I eat, breathe and sleep my business. I get creative. I am a student and I am curious about all the ways I can make my business better.

It’s hard to feel like I don’t belong in the arena when I willingly to the work that puts me there.

The work is endless, but I have found a good balance that makes feeling like an imposter impossible. As long as I am in the work and in my purpose, I am where I belong.

Appreciate the insights and wisdom. Before we dig deeper and ask you about the skills that matter and more, maybe you can tell our readers about yourself?
I am a wife, a daughter, a sister and a Small Business Owner. Of course, I think exclaiming that I am a Small Business Owner is the coolest thing about me. It’s exciting to know that I brought a seedling of an idea to life and seeing her grow into a worldwide known brand – at least in the indoor cycling community – has been a dream.

My business specializes in rhythm-based cycling classes and strength training classes and we not only serve our local community in Scottsdale, AZ and surrounding areas, we have a growing online platform that allows members from all over the world to stream our classes.

What started on YouTube during the pandemic has grown into a full fledge team that spans oceans. Like…what??? How cool is that!?

As we approach our 3 year anniversary, our goal is to continue to extend our digital reach and grow our local community.

If you had to pick three qualities that are most important to develop, which three would you say matter most?
Being and athlete, getting a couple of degrees and working more than one job I never want to do again.

Coming from a family of athletes, I played sports competitively through high school and playing a team sport on a winning team will teach you the importance of teamwork, hard work, resilience and drive. I had coaches who didn’t let me fall back on excuses. They worked us hard and we won a lot because of that. That thought process has always stuck with me. Working hard = success. Now, does that line of thinking alone always work…no. And it’s definitely shifted as I have gotten older and have a team I am managing and a family. Nowadays, it’s more work hard + work smart + have fun = success.

Expanding your education is a must, if not for any other reason than to learn how to speak well, write well and meet new people. Connections are everything.

And working a few jobs I’d rather never do again taught me how to stay in the work when I’d rather be anywhere else. It taught me how to plan for the next move and put purpose into the work now so when I hit my future it looked the way I wanted it to.

This line of thinking I take into my business everyday. Massive goals are set, a plan is put into place, I drop my head and get to work, and the hope is 6 months to a year later, my future will look as I have imagined, or better.

Thanks so much for sharing all these insights with us today. Before we go, is there a book that’s played in important role in your development?
Atomic Habits by James Clear

If you want to become a specific kind of person, exclaim that you are and you will be. For example, if you want to run a marathon say to yourself “I am a runner”, then go for a short 1/2 mile run. Give yourself that small win – that is easier to succeed at than a full marathon – so you will go back to it.

For me – this line of thinking translates to my business like this:

If I want to retire when I am 45 I will say ” I am going to retire when I turn 45″. Then I work backwards and set goals that it will take to get there. Within those goals, I will set small obtainable tasks every day to get me to that final goal.

It sounds so easy, but it’s not and it takes a lot of commitment to stay the course. But, if I want to future I seek, I’ll just keep speaking that phrase out loud “I will retire when I am 45”.
