Meet Mel M Rubin

We were lucky to catch up with Mel M Rubin recently and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mel M, so excited to talk about all sorts of important topics with you today. The first one we want to jump into is about being the only one in the room – for some that’s being the only person of color or the only non-native English speaker or the only non-MBA, etc Can you talk to us about how you have managed to be successful even when you were the only one in the room that looked like you?

It starts and ends with 1 thing – looking directly in the mirror and being completely honest with what I see, from an objective standpoint, with the full intention of getting better and having a great time whilst I’m at it.

Objectivity is the key. Not getting caught up in emotions, judgments, or comparisons. Now that’s not to say ignore/bypass the emotions, judgements, or comparisons that are coming up, it’s important that they are recognised and alchemised/transmuted accordingly… yet swimming in them doesn’t support effective forward movement.

Amidst all of my “flaws & setbacks”, I am perfect exactly how I am. What I want wants me, and although I’m not going to do it like everyone else… I’m not meant to. It’s these perceived limitations that have allowed me, and will continue to allow me, to work out my own unique way of doing things.

Great, so let’s take a few minutes and cover your story. What should folks know about you and what you do?

My story starts back in 2017 when I was at my rock-bottom in all the ways (even though I didn’t consciously know that at the time)… I was scrolling through Facebook half-drunk, and I came across an advert that said “ARE YOU LOOKING TO RADICALLY TRANSFORM YOUR FINANCIAL FUTURE?!” … watched a web class, used the last of my savings to sign up to the training, and was sold on the vision of the business model I was introduced to straight away.

I had no idea how I was going to invest in my new business moving forward, but I knew I would figure it out… so I got to work in all the ways, eventually choosing to get a 2nd job on top of my full-time job to fund the investment into my business.

Essentially, the business model was centred around a career path that offered generational wealth to those who reach leadership ranks through sharing amazing products that are mainly centred around water technology, yet span across health & wellness as a whole. The business model itself was one that we could build around our personal brand… and my thinking was “why would I NOT want to make money being myself?”

At the time I’d not long gotten out of an emotionally abusive & toxic relationship, where I’d been left in £32k worth of debt, living pay-check to pay-check, with a flat that I was now committed to paying all by myself. It’s the whole reason why I started this journey, for the money.

Little did I know I’d get soooo much more than what I’d bargained for!

The journey of building my personal brand led me on such a deep & transformative one as I started to share my story of building a business & personal growth, that to cut a long story short allowed me to rise up out of the depths of depression, anxiety, drink & drug abuse (I’d literally binge all weekend, starting on a Friday and sometimes not finishing until the Monday… with no sleep), co-dependency, emotional & narcissistic abuse, toxic relationships, and a life I hated that was on repeat… by simply leaning into my creative expression through the sharing of my story. The more I shared, the more I healed… and the more I shared the more I also supported others in their healing, which supported my healing even more… it all felt so worth it.

Within a year of me starting my journey, through the deep internal work I had been doing to change my mindset and raise my frequency level, I manifested a redundancy from my old banking job and I’ve been living my freedom life ever since. This work is not woowoo, it’s magic!! And I’m living proof of it!!

In 2020, I followed my Soul’s calling and went to Bali, where my spiritual awakening catapulted and I was fully held by this sacred land & energy to go deep into my healing work to heal my own trauma, as well as that which I had inherited from generations past.

I have quite literally created my own Heaven on Earth from my own Hell on Earth – remembering along the way that our life is completely what we make of it, and is a full on reflection of who we are. I had shed so many layers of unhealthy & toxic ways of being that was unconsciously embodied through my ow trauma, as well as the conditioning that was thrown upon me by the systemic agenda, as well as my caregivers that were also unconscious to it all.

With this remembrance of our external reflecting our internal, and by me becoming completely honest and transparent with myself, holding fully onto my power rather than blaming and complaining about others, I have transformed – and continue to transform – everything unwanted in my life to everything I’ve ever desired.

I have fully expanded. anchored, and grounded into my power, in a deep, loving, & compassionate way., whilst holding full ownership, accountability, and responsibility for it all.

Through this process, I have also landed into my passion and purpose in this lifetime to bring people back to the power & trust within themselves, just like I have… and I teach people how to create everything they ever desired in own unique way, with the basic principles and fundamentals in mind of being human & building a successful online business.

I do this through my membership (The Growth Shift Membership), curated experiences, group containers, and 1:1 mentorship.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

Courage — going after what we want is scary, and it required a level of bravery. It’s normal to be scared, yet moving through and conquering that is what allows us to strengthen ourselves and land into our power over and over again.

Honesty — it’s important that we hold our hands up to ourselves as well as others where we haven’t been operating at our best, or our highest. This is how we move forward in power, from our heart. Lying to ourselves and others doesn’t create solutions or growth… honesty does. Yes, it’s confronting … yet we either confront the elephant in the room, or we stay small. And we didn’t come here to stay small.

Resilience — designing our lives will present us with many tests and obstacles. It’s important that we know this, and move forward accordingly. We are going to have to let go of everything that is weighing us down, keeping us playing small. We are going to have to rise above the ways of being & doing that hold us back or suck our energy, as well as the toxicities from others we may face. We must learn to move forward with our heart, rather than our ego. This requires strength & courage also because the ego death is hard… yet required multiple times throughout the journey.

To close, maybe we can chat about your parents and what they did that was particularly impactful for you?

It was everything they didn’t do for me.

Everything that I wanted that they didn’t give me, I had to give to or create for myself. And this is what’s allowed me to cultivate such strength, resiliency, and power within me today.
