Meet Brandy “lade Breez” Elam

Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brandy “lade Breez” Elam. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Brandy “Lade Breez”, so great to have you on the platform. There’s so much we want to ask you, but let’s start with the topic of self-care. Do you do anything for self-care and if so, do you think it’s had a meaningful impact on your effectiveness?

HOW you start your day MATTERS!
When it comes down to my self care routine, I have become very intentional about how and what I allow to start my day. To start, once I open my eyes, I say “thank you” out loud to acknowledge that I was given another chance to get it right! I take a meditation moment to mentally speak on how great the day will be, as well as set my goals for what needs to get accomplished! Once I’ve cleared my mind, I make my bed and then clean my body while listening to uplifting music that makes me dance while I get ready for the day! My effectiveness becomes impactful by setting my positive mindset and my declaration to move in my powers! I focus on things within my control. I’m assured by my ability to captivate an audience of any consistency.

Let’s take a small detour – maybe you can share a bit about yourself before we dive back into some of the other questions we had for you?

I am an Entertainer so I wear a few different hats. I’m an Award winning Host and event Curator; I’m a published Author, an Award winning Spoken Word Artist; A Poetry Mentor for kids and a life coach for adults. In my spare time, I do business consulting in other companies technical writing, editing and training. Express Me Poetry Business Services and Events was established in 2011. What I feel is so special about it is, the energy that comes with any contract I fulfill for a client or clients. The experience is always worth it! My newest project released was my first album called “Spoken Seasons”, which is on all streaming platforms like Apple Music or Spotify.

Looking back, what do you think were the three qualities, skills, or areas of knowledge that were most impactful in your journey? What advice do you have for folks who are early in their journey in terms of how they can best develop or improve on these?

The three qualities and skills of knowledge that were most impactful on my journey would be writing, public speaking and psychology. My honorable mention would be effective communication. My advice for people starting their journey is, don’t be afraid to get a mentor in your field. Ask for help. Be teachable. I was never afraid to ask people how they got where they were. I hung around people who were doing what I wanted to do. I sacrificed and wasn’t discouraged by hearing “no”. Then when I gathered info, I worked on it constantly. I write everyday. I speak everyday. I practice everyday. If you don’t have consistency for your craft, you don’t want it.

What do you do when you feel overwhelmed? Any advice or strategies?

When I have painted myself into a corner and feel overwhelmed, I take a hiatus or days off my schedule that only require me to love on me. With the majority of my talents dealing in giving to others, and being empathetic, I move around a lot and sometimes forget to step away to give myself time to recuperate, in these instances I unplug from social media, cut my phone off and tune in to me by writing what I think, or if I need to clear my mind, I read or I sit in quiet; And I do these at least twice every few weeks. If I need an on the spot reset, I step away and meditate. I use guided meditations that include affirming energy. If you aren’t the meditating type, and your overwhelmed comes with anxiety, i suggest finding something that makes you happy, like a picture of a loved one, or even a spot on the wall and use it as a focus point and do deep breaths to recenter and reset. If you like to write, be sure to have a journal.
